A Nairobi resident was stabbed to death by two thugs during an armed robbery that took place along Kiambu Road in the upmarket Ridgeways Estate on Sunday, October 30.

Keagan Githua, a 24-year-old, was working at the Kenya Reinsurance Corporation Limited (Kenya Re) after he recently graduated from Strathmore University where he studied Information Technology (IT).

His mother, Lucy Githua, said that her only son was stabbed in the chest as he resisted the robbers. He was pronounced dead after being rushed to the hospital along the busy road by a good Samaritan.

“Keagan was stabbed by thugs on a boda boda along Ridgeways road as he walked home. They attempted to steal his phone but he resisted.

"He was immediately rushed to the hospital by a good Samaritan. Sadly he died of heart-knife injuries on arrival at the hospital,” Lucy said.

Githua's family revealed on Sunday, November 6 that the assailants, after they stole his phone, had continued to use it days after the crime, oblivious of the potential consequences especially after police called the number.

The family further noted that the thugs dared the police to come after them when a cop from the Muthaiga Police station, where they had reported the case dialled the victim's mobile number.

"When one of the police officers called the line, he found that it was on. One of the thieves picked up and said, "yes, it is us, what are you going to do about it? (mtado?)," one relative stated.

The family accused the police of being laxative in investigating the murder, saying they should have tracked down the number to the killers after the call.

Nairobi Regional Commander James Kigera stated that a contingent of police officers had been deployed to smoke out the gangsters from their hideouts.

The murder is among three linked to boda boda riders in the last fortnight. On October 27, Arnold was gunned down by robbers at a bus stop along Waiyaki Way.

A second victim of the trigger-happy duo was shot dead in Donholm moments after depositing money at a local bank, with ballistic reports linking the two incidents.

So far, three suspects were apprehended in connection with the crimes and are currently being held under police custody where they are being questioned.

Another criminal case involving boda boda riders saw one of them attack a man who seemed busy on his phone along Maalim Juma Road, snatching it before fleeing at top speed. This is the same road that hosts the Royal Media Services (RMS) buildings, home to Citizen TV.

Viral Tea's Marvin Chege witnessed a woman's phone being snatched by a boda boda rider at Roysambu matatu stage along Thika Road in the night while she was walking metres behind him.
