President William Ruto has announced that Kenyans will enjoy another round of reductions in fuel prices in December.

Speaking during a tour of Kirinyaga County on Saturday, November 18, the Head of State revealed that the logistical challenges that triggered the hike in oil prices have been resolved and the aftermath would be significantly felt at the pump in the coming months.

To be specific, Ruto indicated that the December price changes would bear huge significance compared to the Ksh2 drop affecting Diesel and Kerosene as announced by the Energy and Petroleum Authority (EPRA) this month.

Ruto attributed the decline in prices to the various programmes the government was implementing that were saving Kenyans from going through turbulent times at the pump.

"We have started dealing with the cost of fuel which has gone up everywhere but as Kenya, we made plans. We have looked for ways of ensuring that the price does not get to levels where many Kenyans will be negatively affected.

"You have seen that we have started to reduce the price of fuel. Next month the price will be reduced much more. That will also be the case in January until we get to a sustainable price," he stated.

The Head of State however acknowledged that the fuel prices were still high, making the cost of living go up, a matter he attributed to the increase in the global oil prices, which were hampering the government's efforts to reduce the cost of fuel again.

While the price of Super Petrol was this month retained at Ksh217.36, the price of Diesel and Kerosene decreased to Ksh203.47 and Ksh203.06 respectively from Ksh205.47 and Ksh205.06.

Meanwhile, the President explained that the government-to-government deal with Saudi Arabia was helpful given that Kenya was purchasing the oil at a cheaper price compared to other countries.

"Those who sell it to us are the ones who sell it to us at their discretion. We will still look at the price and talk to them. What I can assure you is that Kenya gets its fuel at a cheaper price compared to other countries.

"I know things are hard and we have to deal with them. We will work to bring change," he continued.

The President had earlier dismissed Azimio la Umoja leader, Raila Odinga's dossier on the government-to-government oil deal signed by Kenya, maintaining that the oil deal was conducted openly and transparently adding that it was necessary to ease the pressure on the Dollar.

"The International oil companies sell fuel directly to oil marketers in Kenya, the Government of Kenya is not a broker, the entire process is private sector driven. Our business as a government is to underwrite that this transaction will not go haywire," Ruto remarked.

He accused Raila of trying to manufacture a scandal within his administration, affirming that the government does not act as a broker in the oil procurement business, but rather as an underwriter responsible for ensuring oil transactions occur without any hitches.

"The State is not a broker or an in-between so the entire process is private sector-led. I want to challenge the speculators and the agents of the cartels to go and speak to the oil marketing companies in Kenya instead of the rumour mongering that is going on," he said.

"I want to assure them that the fishing they are doing for a scandal in this administration, they are not about to succeed. They can speculate, imagine and dream about a scandal but that is how far they can go."
