Public Service Cabinet Secretary (CS) Moses Kuria has directed newly recruited interns to confirm their attendance at the upcoming launch by President William Ruto, failure to which they would be disqualified automatically.

This is after he announced on Monday, February 26 that the Public Service Commission (PSC) had completed a recruitment drive for the Wagenzi Internship Programme, which is set to be launched on Monday, March 4.

He underlined that the new programme is committed to ensuring that university graduates easily get jobs in government as well as the private sector or even outside the country, thus reducing the rate of unemployment.

"The government invests a lot of resources in the education sector, but we then let these graduates waste in society. The biggest tragedy in our country is the unemployment of the youth and this will not be allowed to continue under the Kenya Kwanza Administration.

"This morning, I met the technical team working on the launch of a Mega internship program, "WAGENZI" and I have committed to work extra hard and ensure most if not all our graduates get job placements either in Government, the private sector, or even Job exports outside the country," he stated.

On Tuesday, February 27, the CS revealed that the candidates employed under the project were invited to attend the launch in person, which is scheduled to commence at 7.30 am.

However, the attendees should first dial the USSD short code *206# to confirm, failure to do so in less than seven days would lead to automatic disqualification.

"To all the successful candidates who were selected for the 2024 Graduate Internship (Wagenzi) Programme by the Public Service Commission, we are pleased to invite you to the flagging off of the 2024 Wagenzi Cohort by President William Ruto at Ulinzi Sports Complex, off Langata Road just before Langata Barracks on Monday, March 4, 2024, from 7:30 am.

"Congratulations! Dial *206# to Confirm. Failure to confirm will lead to automatic disqualification," Kuria added.

In January, PSC announced that it had appointed a total of 8,610 interns and deployed them to serve in different ministries, state departments, corporations and public universities.

The internship programme was scheduled to last for 12 months while the interns will be guided by PSC-trained mentors and coaches.

The CS today met the Kenya Private Sector Alliance (KEPSA) ahead of the launch and made a passionate appeal to them for partnerships in the National Graduates internships program and ensure "we accommodate as many graduates as possible and help build a strong country for all of us."

"The great program will also go a long way in ensuring we encourage our younger generations to appreciate education.

"We also had a discussion with KEPSA on having our local companies become training grounds for our job export program that's proving to be our recent time's oil wells as a country," he stated.
