The daughter of William Oeri, the veteran photojournalist who worked at the Nation Media Group (NMG) and People Daily newspaper, mourned him after his car burst into flames along the Kenol Sagana road in Murang'a County, killing him on the spot.

In a short tribute shared on her Facebook page, Damaris Kemunto Nyabuti disclosed how her father sent discreet farewell messages to various family members as though to insinuate that he was going to die.

The communication specialist and CEO as well as the Founder of Dharkemmy Corporate Communications Ltd further noted that Oeri's farewell left gaps in regard to his well-being afterwards.

“You ran the race of life! I don’t know if you won or completed! You said your goodbyes in your own way yet we didn’t get the message.

"Rest easy Dad! Till we meet again! A lot was said! A lot left unsaid!" she stated, without divulging further.

The late former photojournalist also kept a secret diary which was recovered after the accident and contained messages he recorded as 2023 resolutions.

Among the commitments he made for the New Year touched on his family, especially one where he was devoted to seeing his children through school and keeping his family together.

He also penned a prayer and commitment to help his daughter achieve her education dreams as well as a wish that “my family heals and remains together in love”.

Oeri was mourned by colleagues in the media, who have described him as a hard worker and professional player.

He worked in NMG as a deputy photojournalist for many years. At the time of his death, he was working with the People Daily newspaper as a photojournalist.

A police report seen by Viral Tea revealed that the accident, which involved a head-on collision with an oncoming lorry, occurred at about 3.00 pm at the Kitini area along the Sagana-Kenol road heading towards Kenol in Murang'a.

"It happened that one unknown driver was driving a motor vehicle registration number KCU 209W make Toyota Wish alone on board from Sagana towards Kenol general direction and on reaching the location of the accident CMM did fail to keep to his nearside and collided head-on with an oncoming motor vehicle reg no KDD 227K Isuzu Elf that was being driven from Kenol towards Sagana direction," the report read in part.

Police added that due to the impact the driver succumbed instantly to the injuries sustained whereas the driver of the lorry sustained minor injuries alongside his passenger.

Due to the impact, the Toyota Wish burst into flames but members of the public used sand to put out the fire before a fire brigade from Kenol arrived to extinguish it.
