Detectives drawn from Kisumu Central Police Station have launched investigations into an assault incident involving Kileleshwa Member of County Assembly (MCA) Robert Alai and another politician at a local hotel in Kisumu on Sunday, February 12.

Police reports indicated that Alai was attacked by Jacktone Ojwang Ogendo, a former Kisumu MCA representing Nyalenda 'A' Ward.

The reports had indicated that Alai accused Ojwang of confronting and headbutting him on his forehead, inflicting slight injuries in the process.

Ojwang arrived at the hotel around 9 pm and went to the location where Alai was sitting and attacked him.

Sources at the hotel then revealed to the press that the staff intervened to restore order as the altercation was threatening to spiral out of control.

"Alai was confronted by former MCA for Nyalenda B Jacktone Ojwang Ogendo who head-butted the reportee on the forehead thus sustaining a slight cut on his forehead,” read the police report according to the Nation.

Alai was referred to the hospital for treatment and he later reported to the Kisumu Central Sub-County Criminal Investigations Officer for statement recording and further action.

While police did not immediately establish the motive of the assault, it was reported that Ojwang was angered by a tweet posted by Alai over defilement allegations touching on his family, which triggered the messy confrontation between the two politicians.

Alai also asked police and Kisumu Governor Anyang Nyong'o to investigate the former MCA while he recorded his statement.

On July 23, 2021, Alai was involved in a street fight along Nairobi's Oliotoktok Road with musician Ringtone, which ended up in court after the latter accused the controversial blogger of assaulting him.

The singer had alleged that trouble began after Alai refused to give way at a junction when the traffic lights turned green. Alai, in videos seen by Viral Tea at the time, was captured getting out of his vehicle with a wooden club which Ringtone claimed was used to attack him.

"I hooted and gestured him to give way and instead, he started following my car along Oliotoktok Road," Ringtone then said.

"He then blocked my way and started hitting me with a rungu (club) on the head. He has also damaged my car. I'm heading to a hospital."
