Officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have extended their manhunt for outgoing Kakamega senator, Cleophas Malala by raiding his house.

A video seen by Viral Tea showed the officers trying to crack open the main gate into the premises.

A warrant of arrest was issued against him on Wednesday, August 31 on accusations that he was involved in violent acts during the Kakamega governorship polls.

"I have not seen any arrest warrant. What we are sure of is that this witchhunt arises from the elections that have just been carried out which we feel is a bit unfair.

"We seem to be the only ones who have been targeted. But we are still sorting this out as a legal team and we may not say anything that may go on record at this time," Grace Mburu, a representative from Malala's legal team told the media at his Milimani, Kakamega house on Thursday, September 1.

The representative added that they were consulting the police to seek clarity with regard to his arrest. The team further noted that the detectives did not provide them with the arrest warrant.

"As a woman at this point, it is good to ensure that the Malala's kids are not in the house in case of any forceful entries into the premises.

"Unfortunately, we are also in the dark and are waiting to see why the DCI are here. We are yet to establish whether the Senator is also in the house," Mburu added.

It comes a few days after Malala lost to Fernandes Barasa of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) in the Kakamega gubernatorial race.

Barasa amassed 192,929 votes over Malala of the Amani National Congress (ANC), who got 159,508 votes.

"I congratulate the governor-elect, Fernandes Barasa and his team. The win is deserved and indisputable. I also laud IEBC for conducting free, fair, credible and verifiable elections.

"There is no vote that was rigged and I thank IEBC for doing a good job," he said.

Barasa was running under the Azimio la Umoja coalition under Raila Odinga while Malala was backed by President-elect William Ruto's Kenya Kwanza alliance for the seat. The former emerged victorious in 7 constituencies out of 12.
