Citizen TV anchor, crime and investigative reporter, Hassan Mugambi, is set to walk down the aisle with his fiancée, Mwanaidy Shishi, in a wedding ceremony set for June 2023.

The wedding, according to sources close to the renowned anchor, will take place between June 9 and 10 in Kibra.

The sources added that both Mugambi and Mwanaidy have children from their previous relationships, though it is unclear if the couple will live under the same roof.

“The couple have been dating for over a year and are very excited about the two-day wedding. Plans are already underway,” one source was quoted by Nairobi News.

The dynamics of their living arrangement will likely be determined by various factors and personal choices.

Mugambi and Mwanaidy went public with their relationship a few weeks ago when Mwanaidy shared a video showing off her engagement ring.

Since then, the couple has been sharing their relationship goals on social media, keeping their followers updated on their adventures and providing inspiration to couples across the country.

Marriage is a universally recognised institution, a bond that unites two people in a lifelong commitment. Mugambi and Mwanaidy's wedding will however take a different angle in the form of an Islamic traditional ceremony known as the Nikah ceremony.

What Is The Nikah Ceremony?

The Nikah is a religious ceremony for a Muslim couple to be legally wed under Islamic law, and is when the couple officially says “I accept.”

It’s a prophetic tradition and the only permissible way that a man and woman can be married. What's more, it’s not permitted for a couple to be intimate without a Nikah, so the ceremony legitimizes the relationship in front of God.

“Marriage in Islam is a blessing and it is considered a very important part of faith," Imam Elturk was quoted by Bride.

A Nikah generally takes place in a mosque, a rented venue, or at home. In the event that it's held in a mosque, it’s likely that men and women will be segregated during the ceremony.

The Wali (the father of the bride) can accept the Nikah and marriage contract on behalf of the bride. However, if the Nikah takes place anywhere else, segregation often depends on the couple’s culture or level of religiosity of the family.

Music will also depend on where the Nikah is held: It’s uncommon to have music at a Nikah, especially if it's held at the mosque.

Since it’s a religious event, music and dancing aren’t too common. However, some families might have music if the event isn’t at the mosque or have soft background music after the ceremony is complete.

Mugambi's partner considers herself an entrepreneur and is the founder as well as CEO of Mama Nilishe, a Swahili cuisine restaurant in Kilimani, Nairobi County. She is also the founder of a company selling skincare products and another selling jewellery.

Mama Nilishe specialises in Swahili cuisines. The restaurant has both outdoor and indoor dining areas as well as an open kitchen concept which allows clients to watch as their food of choice is being prepared.

Mwanaidy is a proud mother of two sons, with the eldest, Iqbal, a constant feature on her Instagram account. Her sons get along well with Mugambi, who has a daughter, as she posted a video showing them singing her a birthday song.

The entrepreneur is not only a fashion-holic with a tendency to rock Arabic-influenced attires to fashionable dresses, but she also loves travelling and shares moments of her escapades online. Her most recent trip was to Dubai, where she visited iconic buildings, including the Museum of the Future.

Mugambi introduced Mwanaidy when he first shared a photo of her during the Idd-ul-Fitr celebrations, with the two captured outside a mosque.
