Farida Idris Mohamed, a Commercial Director for Capital Group, which owns Capital FM, was on Tuesday, April 18 charged with threatening to kill her former boyfriend and ex-business partner.

Idris was arraigned at the Milimani Law Courts with seven charges of threatening to kill Hussein Aila Amaro contrary to Section 223 of the Penal Code.

She however pleaded not guilty to the seven counts and was granted cash bail of Ksh100,000.

Appearing before Chief Magistrate Lucas Onyina at the Milimani Law Courts, Idris denied the seven charges of committing the said offence by allegedly sending a series of threatening messages through her mobile phone number to that of Amaro in June 2019.

The prosecution told the court that Idris sent Amaro messages threatening to eliminate him alongside another person who is only identified as Swarna in the court papers.

"On the 14th day of June 2019 at 10:14 hours at an unknown place within the Republic of Kenya without lawful excuse caused Hussein Aila Amaro to receive a short message (SMS) through his number from the number of the said Farida Idris Mohamed to wit "Now tell me what the f*ck you will do to me and you see I will finish you and bloody Swarna combined," threatening to kill him," a charge sheet seen by Viral Tea read in part.

She was also charged with sending five other threatening messages (in total) to the complainant on June 14, 2019, and June 15, 2019, with the third count revealing that she allegedly sent an SMS threatening to finish Amaro.

Idris was also charged with a fourth count of threatening to kill Amaro and drag his body on a hot tarmac on the same date when she is alleged to have committed the three other offences.

"I will kill you with my hands and drag your body on hot tarmac until nobody can recognise that...body of yours then bury you before you proceed to hell, threatening to kill him," added the charge sheet.

After denying the charges, Farida, through her lawyer Peter Wanyama, pleaded with the court to release her on lenient bail terms, which she promised to abide by.

"The accused and the complainant were in a relationship for a period of nine years. They broke up in 2019. The said offence was committed in 2019 and the accused is being charged more than four years later. They were in a business with the complainant," Wanyama told the court.

"The allegations of threatening to kill were committed in 2019 when the emotions of the accused person were high due to the separation, it is now four years and everyone has moved on."

The lawyer further informed the court that the parties intended to have the matter settled out of court.

State Prosecutor Anderson Gikunda did not oppose Farida's application to be released on bail but urged the court to give orders to the accused to stop sending further messages to the complainant, adding to the court that the prosecution was not aware of any out-of-court settlement arrangement of the matter as stated by Idris' counsel.

"These are very serious offences from people who know each other well. She is a Commercial Director at Capital FM News and should be restrained from any contact with the complainant or any of the witnesses.

"My client has been chasing justice for the last four years and we are praying that the bond terms reflect those years my client has been seeking justice," Amaro's lawyer Charles Gitonga told the court.

The court ordered the release of Farida on a bond of Ksh300,000 or Ksh100,000 cash bail pending a hearing and determination of the matter. The case will be mentioned on May 8, 2023.

Farida has been working at Capital FM for 15 years holding multiple roles prior to her current role as Group Commercial Director. She was the Project Director for The Koroga Festival and Head of Radio & Digital Sales, amongst three other managerial roles.
