Kimilili Member of Parliament (MP) Didmus Barasa has given Education Cabinet Secretary (CS) Ezekiel Machogu 14 days to order the fresh administration of the 2022 Kenya Certificate for Primary Education (KCPE) exams at Moi DEB Primary school in Bungoma County.

This is after its headteacher, Kelvin Wanyama, broke down in tears after the school registered a dismal performance in the exams, criticising both the examiners for the poor performance and the Ministry of Education for manipulating the results.

To add salt to the injury, Wanyama revealed that his son scored 334 marks, with the top student at the school scoring 365 marks out of 500.

“I am also a parent in this school. My son who had selected Maranda for his high school education had gotten 334 marks. I don't know how to share this news with him,” Wanyama stated in tears.

Wanyama called the parents of the candidates for a meeting on Wednesday, December 21 to address the issue and during the meeting, summoned the Sub County director to address the problem.

You have seen your children studying and struggling. This is not fair. You cannot compare these pupils with other pupils from other schools. We want the sub-county director to come and give us answers,” Wanyama lamented.

Taking to his Facebook page on Thursday, December 22, Barasa ordered a re-examination for the pupils, threatening to escalate the matter in court if his demand is not met within the 14-day period.

"I have asked CS Education My good friend Ezekiel Machogu to order re-examine of the KCPE exams for the pupils of Moi DEB Primary School in Bungoma, commonly known as The Commonwealth. If this will not happen in the next 14 days, I will move to court," he wrote.

He added that the allegations of exam malpractice must be proved beyond reasonable doubt and not using one's imagination.

"Examination cheating must be proven beyond reasonable doubt and not through one's conscience and/or imagination.

"The definition of ignorance is where pupils are punished and no adult in the name of invigilators is prosecuted. Every counterpart must be brought to book na sio tafadhali," he added.

In the neighbouring Kakamega County, Governor Fernandes Barasa surprised Otieno Lewis Omondi Glen, the top student in the 2022 KCPE exams with a full secondary school scholarship.

According to him, the county government will pay the whole high school fees for the star student who beat over 1.2 million candidates who sat for the national exams.
