Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga's long-serving aide and bodyguard, George Oduor, is dead.

Oduor reportedly passed away on Wednesday, April 2, at the Nairobi West Hospital, where he had been receiving treatment for two weeks.

Kileleshwa MCA Robert Alai, elected on an Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party ticket, is among the leaders who have paid tribute to Oduor.

“Wah George Oduor! Rest In Peace, my brother. I will miss your wise counsel and guidance. You were more than an aide to Baba. You offered us brotherly advice and sought to mentor us,” he stated.

Joining Alai was ODM Communications Director Phillip Etale, who credited him for the impact he had on his life.“This is one man who stood by me at all costs. I have lost a friend. Big bro. Rest Easy, George,” Etale stated.

United Green Movement (UGM) party co-leader Neto Agostinho recalled his past interactions with Oduor. He wrote, "Rest in peace, George Oduor. Loyalty as it comes."

"Met him in 1984 in the tenement where we lived in Homabay. He was with a group that had been sent away from the military in the 1982 coup. Our paths reconnected when I worked for the Constant Gardiner Trust in Kibera," he recalled.

"He was to be a key support system in my by-election engagement in the ODM nomination of September 2012. He remained invaluable in my entire period as an MP in the ODM Party. Dependable. Loyal and all those virtues you need in an Aide. My Condolences to Raila Odinga and the ODM party fraternity."

Oduor was a longtime associate of Raila, frequently serving as his bodyguard and regularly appearing at his events and engagements. Born in Kaloleni, Nairobi, Oduor had served Raila’s father, the late Jaramogi Oginga Odinga, before he switched to the ODM leader after his death in 1994.

As of the time of publication, Raila had not yet released a statement regarding his aide’s passing. Nevertheless, Oduor’s death was considered a significant loss to Raila, his team, and those who knew him.
