Former Ainabkoi MP William Chepkut had been facing kidney disease for quite a while before his death on Saturday, October 8.

The family mourned his demise in a statement, praising Chepkut as a fighter who endured trials and tribulations.

They termed him as an individual who could have offered the real definition of a social favourite who was liked by anyone he met.

"Hon. William Chepkut battled kidney disease for a very long time. A true fighter, Chepkut persevered through it all and you loved him all through.

"Chepkut could have been the perfect definition of amiable, humorous and down to earth man who mingled freely with anyone anytime," the statement read in part.

The family further termed an honour for him to serve as the Ainabkoi MP for five years where he wowed Parliament with his jokes and great articulation of debates in the House.

The family thanked Kenyans for the love and prayers and asked that they continue to respect their privacy during this difficult time.

His personal assistant, Kipkorir Birgen, had earlier disclosed that Chepkut complained about a sharp pain in his leg.

"I was with the boss (Chepkut) throughout Friday. We were also with Governor Bii. At around 11 pm, he called me to ask if I could prepare for his curriculum vitae because he was planning to meet with the First Lady.

"He also mentioned that his leg was swollen and that he will go to the hospital to have it checked," Birgen told the Nation.

Transport CS nominee Kipchumba Murkomen further added that he met the ex-MP at night in a jovial mood and in the company of his friends

Chepkut was, however, rushed to the hospital on Saturday, October 8, where doctors struggled to save his life. According to Chanchal Singh, the chief intensivist at the Mediheal Hospital in Parklands, the doctors received him at around 8:20 am.

"We received the patient, Hon. William Chepkut, at 8:20am. We examined him, but we did not find any signs of heartbeat or breath.

"We, thereafter, embarked on cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), but, unfortunately, we could not resuscitate him. The attempts to revive his heartbeat or respiration failed," the doctor told KTN News.

President William Ruto has since sent a message of condolence to Chepkut's family and friends, mourning him as an astute politician who was known for his humility and humour.
