The position would put him at the helm of critical communications and information from Murang'a County to the electorates and investors. If approved by the Murang'a County assembly, Ndung'u will also be tasked with helping in marketing the County and popularising its initiatives.

According to the notice, the vetting of the 15 will be done on April 5 and April 6 and after that, the reports will be tabled before the House for approval.

Speaking to Viral Tea, Ndung'u appreciated the role, but could not comment further until the nomination was successful.

"This is a nomination. I cannot comment on it before it materialises," he stated.

Guchu is the former Saturday Nation editor. Before that, he was the political and parliamentary affairs editor.

He was also a member of the podcast panel of three looking at the day’s politics, including editors Roselyne Obala and Oliver Mathenge. Guchu also served as regional editor based in Nyeri.

Alongside Obala and Mathenge, Guchu was tasked with countering the Citizen TV Newsgang during the 2022 August 9 general election. The three discussed various political topics and even helped to debunk misinformation in the run-up to the election.

If approved, Guchu would join a long list of journalists who have quit the media for government jobs and they include the likes of Kennedy Murithi, Salim Swaleh, Nicky Gitonga, Charles Odhiambo, Sam Ogina and Karen Karimi.

NTV senior political journalist Kennedy Muriithi marked December 31, 2022, as his last day at the Nation Media Group (NMG). Murithi was on November 14, 2022, appointed to Tharaka Nithi Governor Muthomi Njuki's administration as a political advisor during Muthomi's second term in office.
