Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has fired a strong warning to Western countries against pushing the LGBTQ+ narrative in Kenya.

Speaking on Friday, March 3 while launching the Eldoret Agricultural show, Gachagua reiterated his stance against LGBTQ community rights in the country.

He further warned the West over pushing for LGBTQ rights in Kenya, stating that attempts at doing the same will be met with resistance in the same manner that Kenyans fought off colonial rule to gain independence in the 60s.

"The foreigners should not bring these matters here. We chased them away fighting the colony whereby they took our land.

"They should not make us angry again, whatever they're trying to push here that a man to marry another man, cannot happen," stated Gachagua.

Meanwhile, the United States (US) ambassador to Kenya, Meg Whitman maintained that the US government would respect the Kenyan Government's stand on the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer (LGBTQ) community.

Speaking during an event in Kajiado County, Whitman revealed that the US viewed LGBTQ rights as human rights, but the rights were viewed differently in Kenya, affirming that the US would not impose its view on Kenya on the same.

“Our view is every country has to make its own decisions about LGBTQ rights. In the United States, we have a different stand in which we view LGBTQ rights as human rights but we respect every country’s view on what position they want to take on this and we will respect that but of course, our democratic values in the way we feel are different and that’s okay.

“We have had a very strong working relationship for many years and the Kenyan government knows the US perspective on this but we also respect Kenya’s point on this particular issue,” she stated.

Whitman at the same time denied claims that the US government donated relief food worth Ksh16 billion and drugs to Kenya after the Supreme Court ruling on LGBTQ.

“I want to underscore that there is absolutely no linkage between the food and drug relief and Kenya’s stand on LGBTQ,” she added.

Gachagua had stated on Thursday, March 2 that the LGBTQ matter was immoral, and went against the country's beliefs, echoing President William Ruto as a God-fearing man.

"We don't want that matter of LGBTQ, that is satanic. It is the opposite of what we believe in.

"President Ruto is God-fearing, he's a man of faith, and he will do what needs to be done. In any case, we have our traditions and customs and what they are suggesting is repugnant to morality and our way of life," he went on.

On his part, Ruto indicated that Kenya has values that should be respected and that women should not be allowed to be dragged into a competition by men who have feelings for their own gender.
