Murang'a Governor Irung'u Kang'ata on Monday, January 15 appealed to Kenyans to help him track down a woman thief caught on CCTV stealing a laptop from one of the county's major hospitals.

In his appeal to the public on X (formerly Twitter), the county boss revealed that the daring attempt saw the laptop stolen on Sunday, January 14 at 8.35 pm.

In both clips lasting less than 30 seconds each, the woman dressed in a red top and black skinny jeans was seen gaining access to an office in the medical facility and emerging seconds later with the laptop, all while other patients were watching unawares.

Here is the video:

One of them in a cream jacket could be seen idly standing opposite the entrance of the office, presumably keeping watch of anything that might disrupt the woman's mission, and glancing at her as she walked out.

In the second clip, the woman could be seen walking briskly towards the exit with the laptop in tow.

"Muranga County Level 5 hospital( Muranga town) laptop was stolen yesterday 8.35 pm," Kang'ata captioned both clips shared on X.

"Help us identify this suspect by calling or texting our helpline number 0757 562988."

Kang'ata however did not reveal whether or not any sensitive information was at risk following the theft.

This is not the first time the hospital has suffered the loss of its equipment to petty crime offenders, with the last incident taking place on October 2023 where Kang'ata appealed for help to identify the offender caught on CCTV stealing a bench from the premises.

It was unclear whether the thief was apprehended in a case that adds to daring attempts by robbers to target public hospitals especially while in operation.

In Nairobi, the Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) was put on the spot after a female doctor revealed on January 1 a case where her phone was allegedly and violently snatched by a robber within the premises.

In a series of posts, the doctor going by the moniker Addy Wambui narrated that she was leaving the KNH main theatre at exactly 7.37 pm on New Year's Day when the thief snatched her phone.

Wambui claimed six days later that the robber was a security personnel who was on his off day.

KNH is yet to respond to the incident and it remains unclear whether the suspect was tracked down and arrested.
