On Sunday night, March 30, seven family members died in a road accident in Naivasha, Nakuru County.

Police, according to reports, revealed that the accident claimed the lives of four children and three adults. It happened along the Naivasha-Mai Mahiu highway.

They were returning from a memorial service when their car rammed a lorry. According to photos seen by Viral Tea, the car suffered severe damage, mostly on its right-hand side, to the point of being written off.

Earlier reports revealed that the accident claimed the lives of two brothers and another relative following a three-car collision at Gilgil along the major highway. At the Gilgil Sub-County Mortuary, mourning relatives assembled, struggling to accept the unexpected and devastating loss of the two brothers.

The siblings were on their way to Naivasha when a tragic accident abruptly ended their journey. The eldest and youngest brothers, David and Paul Mwangi, were traveling together in a Toyota Prado when disaster struck.

“He left home around 6.30 am to go to the farm in Naivasha. At 10.30 am, I received a call and visitors arrived; that’s when I knew something was wrong," recalled David's wife.

Paul had also left home earlier that day. His widow, Anne Wangui, recounted her rising worry after failing to reach him by phone. She explained that she began searching for him from 4 p.m. without success, and when she tried again later, his phone was unreachable.

The fatal accident occurred when a trailer driver, attempting to overtake other vehicles, crashed head-on into their car. One of the trailer’s containers toppled onto the Prado, crushing it and killing the two brothers on the spot.

Two farm workers who were also in the vehicle survived with injuries. Traffic police arrived at the scene to clear the wreckage and investigate the cause of the crash.

Preliminary findings indicate that reckless overtaking by the trailer driver may have played a role in the deadly collision.

David, who was employed by the Nakuru County Government’s Education Department, was fondly remembered by his colleagues. Nakuru County Executive for Education, Zippy Wangui, expressed deep sorrow over his passing.

“He was a very diligent and dedicated man. He loved his work and was deeply committed to all of us in the department,” she said.

The bodies of the deceased were moved from Gilgil to Nakuru as the grieving family began funeral arrangements. Authorities have urged drivers to be more cautious on the roads to prevent similar tragedies.

This heartbreaking incident highlights growing concerns over road safety on Kenyan highways, where reckless driving and poor road conditions continue to claim lives.

Family, friends, and colleagues of the deceased are now left to cope with the profound grief of their sudden loss.
