Popular Homeboyz Radio presenter Corine Onyango announced on Tuesday, July 19 that she was fired from the station.

She has been taking to her official Twitter account since Monday, July 18 to share a series of speculative posts on her future at the station for more than 15 years before announcing in a viral tweet that she was let go.

Onyango did not do her Jump Off show running from 7 pm to 9 pm every weekday, which left her fans wondering about her future at the radio station.

"Had time to think about it. Did I mess up? HR trying to holler.

"Wait. I have to delete.

"They fired me, Bro," read the posts, with the latter going viral on social media.

“This a joke. Same pay since 3007 [sic],” read another post which offered her fans a hint of the underlying problems facing the station.

Onyango also responded to a fan who criticised the takeover of the urban radio station by Radio Africa Group to the point of its studios being moved from Kilimani to the group's offices along Waiyaki Way.

“For sure. I'm so happy you have been following the story,” she replied.

Viral Tea reached out to sources within the media house for more clarity on the matter but were yet to respond by the time of publication. Efforts to reach out to the presenter also did not bear fruit.

Onyango is an award-winning show host and actress having clinched two Best Actress awards and the Hennessy Unkut HipHop Award for the best radio show.

During a past interview with the Nation, she revealed that Homeboyz Radio was her first job as she had previously worked at a campus radio station in the United States.

"I’ve always wanted to be in the media although my initial plan was to be in broadcast or production, which is funny because my dad used to promise my sisters and me that he would buy us this car or that house if we became lawyers or doctors. We all wanted to but somehow we were inclined towards this weirdo industry.

"My sister Janet works for the BBC while Annabel is a stylist here in Kenya. I studied television and filmmaking at university and after my studies, I decided to spend my vacation with my extended family here then my cousin Nina Ogot mentioned there was an opening at Homeboyz where she was working at the time so I went and practically convinced DJ John that he needed to hire me and he did," she revealed.

Onyango, on plans for her future, had expressed her wish to work as a Programmes Controller, adding that she had enjoyed working for the station and hoped to use it to advance her career.

"I love it at Homeboyz so I hope I can do that here say in the next 20 years. I may not host ‘The Jumpoff’ by then but I plan to remain in radio as a creative behind-the-scenes person," she added.

Former Homeboyz Radio host and MC, Neville Musya, was also fired from the station, but under different circumstances.

He was amongst presenters Shaffie Weru and popular Disc-jockey Joseph Munoru alias Dj Joe Mfalme who were terminated from the station on March 28, 2021, over alleged Gender-based violence utterances. He now works as a drive show host alongside DJ Mr Fabz and MGM at Trace Radio.
