The late Jeff Mwathi’s mother, Anne Mwathi on Monday, May 8 pointed fingers at the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) over its handling of the probe on her late son.

Speaking to YouTuber Nicholas Kioko, Anne lamented that the DCI failed to deliver justice following her son's death, despite the investigative agency forwarding its file on the probe to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Noordin Haji for perusal before taking further action.

She insisted that her son was murdered and expressed disappointment that his death happened under the watch of someone he trusted.

"When he was murdered they did not mark the house as a crime scene to prevent people from entering.

"They determined that my son committed suicide. Although I know my child did not kill himself," she claimed.

Anne blamed the police for not being too keen on the investigations and making arrests, further wondering why the DCI was yet to go after popular Mugithi singer Lawrence Njuguna, also known as DJ Fatxo and the people who were with Jeff the day he died.

“Why should the DCI put me through all this including exhuming the body of my son and there are no arrests?" she posed.

Additionally, she expressed her regret that Jeff's body had to be exhumed yet the authorities could have interrogated people about the incident, faulting the sleuths' finding that the death of the late Jeff Mwathi was still inconclusive with a possible suicide as the strongest explanation, as none of the suspects who recorded statements could be pinned to the death.

She went on to reveal that the family has not received a report on the post-mortem conducted by Chief government pathologist, Johansen Oduor after Jeff’s body was exhumed.

“We do not expect the report taken to the DCI will bring results. We did not get the autopsy report yet, we do not know anything,” she said.

Jeff’s grandmother Teresia Mwathi, on her part, expressed her bitterness on behalf of the family, further claiming a cover-up in the investigation process. She further claimed that there were some well-connected individuals defending DJ Fatxo with people being paid to remain silent on the murder.

Detectives who worked around the clock since Mwathi's death at the home of DJ Fatxo had in April stated that there was no forensic evidence to suggest that the late interior designer was murdered.

The case has been the subject of public interest, with DCI Director Mohamed Amin ordering a fresh investigation into the matter to establish the events leading up to Mwathi's demise.
