Lawyer and activist Morara Kebaso has been arrested, as confirmed by his lawyer. According to reports, he was taken from his main office in Kahawa Sukari, Nairobi following a raid by police officers.

A video which surfaced online showed the lawyer who followed the police car, a Subaru Forester, along Thika Road to Nairobi Regional Police Headquarters.

The lawyer, Pareno Solonka, a close associate of Morara, while addressing the press outside the police headquarters, revealed that the team was blocked from accessing the facility.

"They have restricted access and have strict instruction from the top not to allow any person to access Morara including lawyers, media personnel, and any other persons," the lawyer said.

‘’The question is what type of police do we have here? They have no respect for the constitution, they have no respect for the ruler of the law. The head is rotten all the way from the Minister of Interior including all the officers that we have here holding Morara and we should condemn it in the strongest way possible."

Following news of his arrest, Kenyans took to social media decrying an abduction given that the video showed the lawyers following the Subaru closely behind along the busy highway.

The cause of the arrest is yet to be immediately known. However, some reports claim that he was arrested for allegedly conning Kenyans and insulting President William Ruto. About 30 minutes before he was arrested, Morara posted a video calling for the arrest of Mombasa Governor Abdulswamad Sheriff Nassir.

In the audacious video, Kebaso goes on to recount Bruce's abduction ordeal which was carried out by 20 individuals in the county under the guise of taking him to apologise to the Mombasa Governor. He was then tortured and sodomised and not brought to the Governor as he had previously believed.

Kebaso then gave the Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja an ultimatum to arrest the Governor to answer to charges of being an accessory to crime and being a conspirator to crime.

"The governor should be investigated and arrested. If it is not done then I am ready to suspend all activities for nationwide demonstration," Kebaso's last post on X reads.

As it stands, Kenyans on social media continue to express their support for Kebaso and #FreeMorara has already kicked off.

Kebaso had spent the better part of the weekend in Bomet and Kericho counties carrying out his usual civic education rallies and exposing stalled government projects on the President’s turf.

On September 22, Morara was involved in an accident between 7:00 pm and 8:00 pm but luckily, no one sustained injuries. According to him, he was hit by a drunk driver while returning from Meru and Tharaka Nithi counties, where he was conducting his countrywide civic education campaign.
