A 27-year-old man in Eldoret, Uasin Gishu County may have joined millions of Manchester United fans red-faced after losing 3-1 to Arsenal in the English Premier League (EPL) on Sunday, September 3 but he took the devastating news almost too far.

Thomas Kiptanui Kemboi, popularly known as Kapkeno, challenged his friends who are Arsenal fans to a dare he would honour if the Red Devils lost to The Gunners at the Emirates Stadium in North London, United Kingdom (UK).

Kapkeno vowed to eat a whole tray of boiled eggs if Man Utd lost to Arsenal, and after that happened, he had no choice but to honour his pledge.

He documented his feat in a live session on his Facebook page as he carefully peeled off the shells to devour the eggs from the tray which would be normally composed of 36 eggs.

While in the company of his friends and videographer, the artist, famous for his hit song ‘Wachawi’, consumed one egg after the other, spicing it up with some salt and tomato sauce on the side, though he took breaks to drink water lest he got choked by the eggs.

“Due to the loss of Manchester United to Arsenal, I (Kapkeno) am fulfilling my promise of eating one tray of eggs for my fans,” Kapkeno wrote on his Facebook page.

Kapkeno would suddenly collapse after eating the 15th egg, with his friends believing that he was initially pulling a stunt. His friends could be heard laughing while encouraging him to complete his challenge.

“We thought that it was all part of the script. We were hopeful that he could consume all the eggs. We did not think that it was a serious matter and that he could end up admitted to hospital,” Victor Kimutai, Kapkeno’s videographer, was quoted by The Standard.

Kapkeno divulged that before he passed out, he had experienced a fever and excessive sweating, and his stomach had begun to swell.

“One minute I was energetic and ready to complete the challenge before me and the next moment I was in hospital with an IV drip on my hand.

"I was diagnosed with constipation and was injected with three IV fluids. I am grateful that I am now doing well,” narrated Kapkeno after he was discharged from the hospital.

He later warned youths against irresponsible betting saying some might prove fatal, even though he remained adamant that he would still continue rallying behind Manchester United.

Daily consumption of eggs can result in an increase in good cholesterol as well as bad cholesterol, which can predispose an individual towards the risk of cardiac disorders.

Consuming eggs in excess can result in weight gain due to the high amount of saturated fats. Excessive consumption of eggs can result in non-alcoholic fatty liver disease.

Precautions to take with Eggs

Eating eggs is okay if taken in moderate amounts. However, general precautions must be followed in the following conditions:

  1. It is advised to refrigerate eggs before consumption, as refrigeration reduces bacterial growth.
  2. It is advised to check eggs while buying them and avoid egg shells which are cracked or foul-smelling.
  3. It is recommended to cook eggs properly until the yolk is firm. This should be done to avoid any illness, as undercooked eggs can result in Salmonella infections.
  4. You should always check the shelf life of eggs given on the egg carton.

Meanwhile, Manchester United have had a less-than-pleasing start to the 2023/24 Premier League season, currently sitting 11th on the table after losing two of their first four matches, which is below the standards they set when they finished third last season.

The Red Devils believed they had won the game against Arsenal in a spicy encounter when Alejandro Garnacho came off the bench to second their second goal, only for VAR to rule it offside.

Then, two quick goals deep into stoppage time from new acquisition Declan Rice and Gabriel Jesus from a counter-attack sealed a resounding win from Arsenal in a rivalry dating back to the Wenger-Alex Ferguson era and one that grinds the whole of Kenya to a halt anytime the two teams play each other.
