Lawyer Miguna Miguna will return to Kenya officially on Tuesday, October 25, 2022 after almost five years in exile.

Taking to his social media handles on Thursday, September 22, Miguna announced that he will leave for Kenya on Monday, October 24 from Toronto, Canada, where he has been spending the five years in exile.

The trip between Kenya and Canada that takes one almost a day will see him land at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) on the night of October 25.

"Homecoming itinerary. After nearly 5 years of forced barbaric exile, I'm returning home.

"Departing from Toronto: October 24, 2022. Arrival at JKIA, Nairobi: October 25, 2022, at 8:20 PM. See you, everyone," Miguna wrote on Twitter.

Miguna had earlier demanded outgoing Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i and his Principal Secretary, Karanja Kibicho, Ksh7 million that he was awarded as damages by the Kenyan Court.

He further directed them to reach out to his lawyer over the payments and gave them an ultimatum.

"To Fred Matiang'i, Karanja Kibicho and Major General Gordon Kihalangwa: You are hereby directed to contact my advocate, Adrian Kamotho Njenga, and sort out the damages and costs the High Court and Court of Appeal awarded me in the various cases I won since 2018. Do so promptly before I land," announced Miguna.

He also called for the Red Alerts issued against him to be redirected to Matiang'i and Kibicho, claiming that the duo committed criminal offences against Kenyans.

"Whatever goes around comes around. The mafia like Fred Matiang'i, Kibicho and Kihalangwa issued red alerts against me for more than 4 years.

"Now is their turn to contend with red alerts for crimes they committed against Kenyans," he maintained.

The lawyer was awarded the cash in damages after the government officials continued to ignore orders issued to clear the way for Miguna's homecoming.

Shortly after he received his passport allowing him to return, Lawyer Nelson Havi led calls to have Matiang'i and two others, including Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) boss, George Kinoti, pay him the damages entirely.

“Another big score for the rule of law. The decree for the payment of damages of Ksh7 million by Matiangi, Gordon Kihalangwa and George Kinoti jointly and severally should now be enforced against the three,” Havi stated.

In June, Miguna sued Matiang'i and Kibicho in Canada seeking Ksh1.7 billion in compensation for damages caused during his deportation to Canada in 2018, arguing that it had ruined his business and reputation.

"The Plaintiff claims from the Defendants, jointly and severally general damages for malicious prosecution, unlawful detention, torture, assault and battery in the sum of Ksh1.1 billion and general damages for libel, defamation and slander in the sum of Ksh587,050,000," read the court documents in part.

Miguna now has a new passport that was issued to him by President William Ruto after his old one was destroyed.

What seemingly remains to clear the way for his homecoming entirely is the red alerts to be lifted against him.
