The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party on Friday, September 8 announced changes to its top brass after the resignation and defection of some of its party members.

The changes were effected by the party's National Executive Council (NEC) effectively replacing six former officials.

"The following are the changes made to the membership of the party’s NEC. This follows resignations/defections by the former holders of the positions," ODM stated.

Kisii Governor Simba Arati was one of the marquee appointments, assuming the role of the National deputy chairperson, replacing former Kisii County Woman representative Janet Ong'era who defected to the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) led by President William Ruto.

Busia County MP Catherine Omanyo will become the new Deputy Secretary General, replacing former Busia Woman representative Florence Mutua, who quit the party after the 2022 polls.

Saboti MP Caleb Amisi was named as the new Deputy Organising secretary, replacing former Kwale Woman Representative Zulekha Hassan.

Fatuma Masito will replace Olga Karani as the Deputy National Treasurer.

Migori Senator Eddie Oketch was appointed the new secretary for Humanitarian and Disaster Management affairs for the party, a position previously held by Bob Njagi.

Elsie Muhanda will also replace Justus Kizito as the secretary for security in the Raila Odinga-led party.

Governor Arati and his colleagues will serve in the various posts till next year when the party is scheduled to hold its party primaries.

"The party will hold its grassroots elections early next year. The dates for this exercise will announced by the National Executive Committee," ODM announced during its NEC meeting on Wednesday, September 6.

The changes come two days after ODM expelled some of its members who had been associating with President Ruto.

Jalang'o was among ODM members who were expelled over their association with President Ruto. Others included Elisha Odhiambo (Gem), Caroli Omondi (Suba South), Gideon Ochanda (Bondo) and Kisumu Senator Tom Ojienda.
