National Assembly Leader of the Majority Kimani Ichung'wah revealed on Tuesday, March 28 that he is open to investigations regarding the invasion of the Northlands City Farm in Ruiru, Kiambu County belonging to the family of former President Uhuru Kenyatta.

Speaking to the media, he clarified that his previous remarks which warned of a possible raid by unknown persons on the property of the former president were taken out of context.

He further explained that he was voicing the concerns the Mount Kenya region residents had been saying for a long time regarding the country's founding family.

“I am a resident of Central Kenya, and I know what the people there are saying about the former first family. On Monday, March 20, I only relayed what the people of Mount Kenya had long been saying about the Kenyattas," he told The Standard.

Ichung'wah, a vocal lawmaker who is an ally of President William Ruto however expressed flattery at Kenyans thinking he is wealthy, stating that he is open to investigations into the Northlands city raid.

In particular, he expressed that he was ready for his phone records to be accessed to establish if he had any links to the raid.

“I’m flattered to hear that people think I have a lot of money. If anyone suspects that I had a role to play in the Northlands farm invasion, then I’m open to investigations.

"The police can access my phone to establish who I spoke to if I did any mobilisation, or which places I visited on or before Monday, March 27. I’m ready to have an investigations file opened against me," he went on.

Ichung'wah, however, condemned the atrocious act which saw hundreds of unknown goons steal dozens of sheep worth up to Ksh70 million, trees cut down and later a portion of the property burnt down.

The Kikuyu Member of Parliament also condemned the invasion of Azimio la Umoja leader, Raila Odinga's East Africa Spectre gas plant along Mombasa Road and called for speedy investigations aimed at bringing the culprits to book.

"Any act of anarchy, not only directed at the Kenyattas and the Odingas, but also mama mbogas and other ordinary citizens are unacceptable, and the perpetrators should be arrested and prosecuted.”

Revisiting the incident, Ichung'wah recalled stumbling upon social media reports of the raid on the land attached to the family of the former Head of State before Citizen TV aired live footage of the unknown individuals destroying fences guarding the farm.

“I first saw on social media the reports claiming that unknown people had invaded the former president’s farm. That was around 11:30 am. I had to wait for mainstream media to verify and file accurate reports. It was after a local TV station aired live footage of what was happening at the farm that I got to know that the incident had indeed taken place,” Ichung'wah explained.

The lawmaker had previously accused Uhuru of sponsoring the Azimio demonstrations, suggesting that he would be a victim of retaliation by people, especially on the land his family owns.

“I want to ask our former president to respect other people’s property. If you cannot do that, we have so many questions to ask you starting with the land you occupy in Ruiru, Taita Taveta, and Nakuru. If you attack people’s property we will also attack your land and ensure those that do not have also get a share," he stated on March 20, 2023.

Police are since investigating the incident with the aim of ascertaining those responsible for the destruction and injuries caused during the daring invasions, moreso on private property.
