Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza's official residence in Milimani Estate, Meru town has been sealed off by homicide detectives.

Viral Tea has learnt that the detectives declared the residence a crime scene following the gruesome murder of blogger Daniel Muthiani alias Sniper after they arrived on Saturday afternoon, January 6 in a series of Landrovers, Double cabins and Subarus.

In addition, the detectives refused to address the media while denying journalists access to the scene by 200 metres, however, reliable reports confirmed that more family members were being arrested.

It is however not clear whether they are investigating the murder of Sniper, the developments coming after the arrest of the governor's son Timothy Kinoti alias Timo and her brother Murangiri Kenneth alongside three others over their involvement in the blogger's death.

It was also unclear whether or not Governor Mwangaza was at her residence when the raid occurred.

On Friday, January 5, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) filed an application seeking to detain the five suspects.

In the application filed at the Kiambu Magistrate Court, the DCI had sought for the five suspects to be detained for 21 days at Muthaiga Police Station to enable the DCI sleuths to conclude investigations.

The five suspects were arrested on Thursday, January 4 in Meru County with the investigation officials booking them in various police stations in Kiambu and Nairobi County.

“That from the time the respondents were arrested and the time to conclude the investigations have not been adequate and the applicant requires 21 days to enable the conclusion of the investigations while the respondent is in police custody,” the application read.

The application indicated that the five suspects had lured Sniper via a phone call that Governor Mwangaza wanted to meet him to strike a truce, having been the subject of the blogger's criticism.

The deceased then travelled from his home in Igembe South to meet the five suspects in Meru town before he went missing, a matter which prompted the family to raise an alarm.

Speaking for the first time about the gruesome murder that roped in her brother, Mwangaza revealed that detectives should be allowed to investigate and get to the truth of the matter.

"I don't want to comment much on the murder of Sniper and we all want to know what happened. The matter is being investigated," she said.
