Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua disclosed details of an agreement with President William Ruto, among others on which university in Kenya they would wind up getting their future spouses from.

Speaking during the 52nd graduation ceremony at the Kenyatta University (KU) in Nairobi where he was the chief guest, Gachagua reminisced the emotional memories he and the President had as comrades of the famous institution.

According to them, and according to word on the street at the time, any man who wanted a good woman to build a future with had to join KU.

“My return here today is momentous and very emotional, the president and I have an emotional attachment to this university, many years ago when we were at the University of Nairobi, there was a common agreement among us that if you wanted a good wife you go to KU, I do not know if that is true today," he revealed, much to the wild cheers of the graduating students in attendance.

To prove this, he gave an account of how he met Pastor Dorcas Rigathi at the institution and used tricks up his sleeves to romantically win over her.

"Back in the year 1987, I took a bus number 45 to hang around here, we would go to KM to hover around there, looking around to spot a spouse in a hall called Ruwenzori, I then found a sweet girl, pitched my case, spoke nicely to her, I even recited a poem to her, and with that, I was able to win her over," he remembered.

"I am grateful that this university gave me a wife in Dr Dorcas Rigathi, and I have not been disappointed for the last 33 years, she has not run away and has no single scratch."

Coincidentally, this was the same university where President Ruto chilled around the same spot and masterfully won over his wife, First Lady Rachel Ruto.

"My boss William Ruto also hung around here and sorted himself, you guys do know that the president is a man full of schemes? He also found Rachel Ruto here at KU, our first lady of Kenya,” he concluded.

Gachagua has on several occasions intimated to be a family man in public and has never shied away from advising Kenyans on the importance of family.

Govt To Take Back KU Land Uhuru Took From Them

On the matter of Kenyatta University, Gachagua assured the audience that the government would take back KU's land that was allocated to World Health Organization (WHO), launching an attack on former President Uhuru Kenyatta's administration for frustrating Professor Paul Wainaina the university vice chancellor and the entire university council on the same.

They were sent home for what was believed to be a refusal to hand over the title deed of the university for the allocation of the land. WHO got 30 acres, Africa Centre for Disease Control 10 acres, and the Kenyatta University Teaching, Referral and Research Hospital 108 acres, making up 410 acres of KU land the government was allowed to take following an Environment and Lands Court order in August 2022.

“Early this year before the new administration came in, the previous one intimidated the university council and vice chancellor to allow the grabbing of Kenyatta University land. These great men and women stood their ground and refused to surrender the land,”

“As a government, we have instructed the Ministry of Land to cancel those allocations and reinstate the land to Kenyatta University,” he said.

Gachagua revealed that the VC was reinstated together with the council as President Ruto had promised because it was the right thing to do. Prof Wainaina was reinstated two months after the Head of State was sworn in.

He apologised to Prof Wainaina for the public humiliation they endured for refusing to give up the land.

"Professor Wainaina and the senate, on behalf of the government of the Republic of Kenya and the political leadership, we want to apologise to you and the family and the KU fraternity for the humiliation you were accorded for standing firm and refusing to allow the KU land to be grabbed," he said.

While slamming the VC, former President Kenyatta vowed to deal with him and the university council “swiftly and effectively”.
