President William Ruto on Wednesday, August 9 marked the first anniversary of the 2022 general elections where Kenyans turned up bright and early to vote for the fifth president of the Republic of Kenya.
The Head of State was in Thika, Kiambu County where he was commissioning an affordable housing project, one year since he cast his vote at Kosachei Primary School polling Station, Sugoi alongside his wife, Mama Rachel Ruto.

The ceremony was attended by government officials including his deputy Rigathi Gachagua, Cabinet secretaries, county leaders and supporters of the president, who had gathered for the launch of the affordable housing project.
The event was also marked with speeches by Ruto and other political leaders, who praised the President for the achievements he made in terms of service delivery to the people of Kenya almost one year since he took office.
Ruto on his part addressed his plans to improve the economy, create jobs, and bring down the cost of living, thus the commissioning of the affordable housing project in Thika was viewed as a key highlight of the event.
The project is part of Ruto's plan to provide jobs and affordable housing to Kenyans, and it is expected to benefit thousands of families in Thika and the surrounding areas. Ruto thus instructed the contractor to deliver in terms of the project and employ residents.
The event also offered Ruto a chance to showcase his popularity in Kiambu County, which has for long been a stronghold of former President Uhuru Kenyatta.
During his five-day working tour of the Mt Kenya region where he commissioned new development projects, Ruto has been drawing crowds last amassed during the pre-election campaign period. The tour, which started on Saturday, August 5 is expected to end on Wednesday, August 9.
Ruto's victory in Kiambu County in the 2022 elections was seen as an unexpected blow to Uhuru who heavily campaigned for Azimio la Umoja and leader, Raila Odinga, who was the presidential candidate at the time.
The tour was thus seen as Ruto honouring his promise to the people of Mt Kenya region to include them in his service delivery as the Head of State.
"I have heard some people are making noise in Nairobi because I have come here to Mt Kenya. I want to tell them to leave me alone. I was given a job by the people of Kenya, and I have brought them a report,” the President stated during his earlier launch of affordable housing in Gichugu, Kirinyaga County.
Echoing his sentiments, Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua said "They are making noise in Nairobi, saying the President has come here in the Mt Kenya region, where do they want him to go? They're saying the President has started campaigning, is bringing projects campaigning?"
Turning his attention to Narc Kenya Party Leader Martha Karua, who lost in astounding circumstances on her home turf during the polls, Gachagua expressed that he would look for her to have talks after sending elders to approach her.
He sensationally claimed that Karua has been taking part in Azimio's anti-government protests due to her closeness with Roots Party Leader George Wajackoyah.
"I will look for elders to talk to Karua. This habit of putting a pot on the head is embarrassing us. She is my friend; I will look for her and have talks. The first thing I will tell her is she puts a pot on the head because of walking with George Wajackoyah,” said Gachagua.
On Monday, August 15, 2022, former IEBC Chair Wafula Chebukati declared Ruto as the winner of the presidential election after garnering 7,176,141 votes (50.49%) against Raila who scored 6,942,930 (48.85%)votes.
