President William Ruto on Thursday, March 7 recalled his confrontation with Nakuru Governor Susan Kihika which began when he took note of how she was delivering her speeches.

Speaking during the launch of the Women Governors Caucus G7 Strategy in Nairobi, the Head of State revealed that he was attracted to the county boss' hard stance when the two brushed shoulders with each other.

Ruto pointed out a flaw in Kihika's speech and tasked her with sharpening her oratory skills, seemingly knowing that he was preparing her to address a series of political rallies.

"One time I called her and told her that I was listening to you and you are persuasive. I want you to rehearse your texts, don't leave home until you know what you are going to say at a political rally.

"Even if it means you have to cram three things. I had to take her through lessons," Ruto revealed.

The Head of State further barred Kihika from setting foot in Nairobi, a move he termed as key to helping her familiarise herself with the plight of Nakuru residents.

Other than blocking her from entering Nairobi, Ruto also disclosed that she advised the Nakuru Governor to change her wardrobe to effectively tackle the village politics.

"Forgive me, Susan, I was hard on you. Another time I called her and said I don't want to see you in Nairobi. You must go and sit at the village," Ruto stated.

"Another time I told her I know women want to look beautiful, put on a skirt that is pretty. I told them this was not the time to look beautiful. Put on a long dress because this place is chaotic put on those other things which I don't want to say and get on with the campaign."

His sentiments were earlier acknowledged by Kihika who appreciated how his hard stance enabled her to deliver on her mandate.

"Buy rubbers and wear them or I will buy them for you. Ruto making me buy rubbers, made me deliver," she said.

Kihika, who vied for Nakuru governor on a United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party ticket in the 2022 general elections, garnered 440,707 votes, unseating the then incumbent, Lee Kinyanjui, who got 225,623 votes.
