President William Ruto told off a resident who temporarily cut short his address during the first day of his two-day working tour of the Nyanza region, covering Kisumu, Homa Bay and Siaya counties.

Speaking to residents of Homa Bay county on Friday, January 13, the Head of State outlined his plan to launch several projects that directly impact the lives of the people and are in line with the government’s bottom-up economic agenda that places a premium on economic transformation, especially for those at the bottom of the economic pyramid.

While explaining the government's plan to work on water projects in Oyugis as well as Kendu Bay at a cost of Ksh600 million, one of the residents amidst a huge crowd interrupted him by challenging him on his plans for the fishing sector in the county.

Surrounded by heavy security, the Head of State however interrupted him, telling him to relax while throwing some banter his way, as he promised to address the matter.

Watch the video:

"Wait until I speak about matters to do with fish. Why are you rushing me, were you told by someone I'm in a hurry to go somewhere?

"Tell this guy to slow down and stop talking too much," Ruto mocked while driving himself and the rest of the crowd into laughter.

The Head of State would later address the matter regarding fish, vowing to build a fish market to bolster the county's economy.

"The fish you have given us will be part of the processing industry to distribute the product to other parts of the country.

"You will have a chance to process all the fish from the region. Also, after the construction of the fish market, I will come in December to buy some fish," he added.

President Ruto was warmly welcomed by Homa Bay governor, Gladys Wanga while launching a series of development projects. Wanga went to the extent of even gifting him a fish weighing 200 kilogrammes alongside other goodies.

"Your Excellency, because you have been kind and you have visited us, we have some gifts. Your Excellency, we have a 200kg fish, that is why we are talking about the introduction of processing in the area.

"Also, Your Excellency, Mokwa is the unga we are producing in Gwasi constituency Homa Bay County," Wanga announced while handing the goods to Ruto.

Other gifts were a locally crafted traditional hat, a local omena delicacy from Lake Victoria, and pineapples among other fruits as well as a cow with the word 'President' written on it and invited the Head of State to the podium.

Wanga also presented Homa Bay's development plan to Ruto which focussed on healthcare, housing, road infrastructure, and trade, especially in relation to fishing.

Ruto was accompanied by his deputy Rigathi Gachagua, ICT Cabinet Secretary Eliud Owalo, and Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo among other leaders.

Gachagua on his part announced that former Prime Minister, Raila Odinga, would continue to enjoy privileges as a former government official under the Kenya Kwanza administration.

“We have no problem with Baba and the election period ended. We only had a problem when looking for power. Baba is respected in our government, President William Ruto is catering for his cars and security because he is a Kenyan leader,” DP Gachagua stated.
