Simon Muteti Freed After He Was Abducted More Than 3 Months Ago
LSK revealed on January 30, 2025, that it received and provided legal aid to the distressed family seeking justice for their relative, Muteti

Simon Muteti has been released after he was alleged to have been abducted on October 22, 2024, Law Society of Kenya (LSK) President Faith Odhiambo has confirmed.
Taking to her X account on the morning of Tuesday, February 11, Odhiambo revealed that while he is currently safe with his family, the ordeal has left him so frightened to the point of being unable to move.
"Mr Simon Muteti has been released after being held incommunicado for more than 3 months. He is safe with his family but remains petrified by his ordeal. We will extend the necessary legal and psychosocial support to him and the family," she wrote.
LSK revealed on January 30, 2025, that it received and provided legal aid to the distressed family seeking justice for their relative, Muteti, who was allegedly abducted by members of the Special Operations Unit in Timau Laikipia on October 22, 2024.

"This troubling case underscores an alarming trend of enforced disappearances not only in urban centres like Nairobi but across the country," stated LSK then.
The society, in its statement, also reported that another family from Garsen, represented by Ibrahim Abdullahi, visited its offices to report that Abdullahi Ahmed's father, Abdullahi Ahmed, had been taken into custody from within Garsen Police Station and had been missing since October 5, 2024. No update has been provided yet on the matter.
"In response to these alarming events, the LSK is intensifying its efforts to provide legal aid, gather information, support affected families, and raise awareness through partnerships with other organizations," added LSK.
The alleged abduction cases were among those recorded by the Kenya National Commission on Human Rights (KNCHR) between June and December 2024. On December 26, 2024, KNHCR revealed that 82 cases had been recorded during that period.
"There have been thirteen (13) more cases of abductions or enforced disappearances in the last three (3) months bringing to eight-two (82) the total cases since June 2024.
"Seven (7) of the recent abduction cases were reported in the month of December 2024 with six (6) of them still missing, bringing to twenty-nine (29) the total number of persons still missing since June 2024,” said KNCHR.
December 2024 happened to be notorious for abductions in Kenya, however, most of the abductees were found alive. For instance, Billy Mwangi, 24, and Peter Muteti, 22, were discovered alive after allegedly being abducted on December 20 of the previous year.
Mwangi was rescued by a good Samaritan who reunited him with his family, while Muteti was found alive in Nairobi’s Central Business District (CBD).
Likewise, others who were also found alive that same day included Rony Kiplagat, the brother of cartoonist Kibet Bull, who was located in Machakos, and Benard Kavuli, who was found in Kitale.
