Speaking at the launch, KSL Director and Chief Executive Officer Dr. Henry Mutai emphasized the importance of the PTP programme in bridging the gap in middle-level legal support for professionals in the Bar, corporate sector, and government institutions.
“The Diploma in Law programme is designed to meet the growing need for paralegals equipped with broad-based legal knowledge, skills, and competencies.
"At KSL, we recognize the value of collaborating with reputable institutions like KUCCPS to enhance accessibility to our programs. This partnership will expand our reach and contribute to the national objective of providing quality education to all Kenyan citizens,” he stated.
The PTP programme equips learners with practical legal skills necessary for paralegal roles such as investigation officers, court clerks, legal assistants, and case management officers in both the public and private sectors, as well as civil society organizations.
It also caters to professionals in other fields who wish to acquire basic legal knowledge for personal or professional development. To accommodate working professionals, virtual evening classes are available, making the programme convenient for those in employment.
The course is structured to provide paralegals with the essential legal knowledge required to support the legal profession, as mandated by the Kenya School of Law Act, Cap. 16C. It addresses the need for skilled paralegals and aims to:
-
Provide students with foundational legal knowledge;
-
Equip them with essential legal skills to support legal practitioners;
-
Train students in ethical responsibilities and professional conduct;
-
Develop communication skills relevant to legal practice;
-
Enhance problem-solving abilities for legal and administrative tasks.
