TV47 and Radio 47 news anchor, political and parliamentary reporter, Elizabeth Mutuku, alias Lizah has been promoted at the Cape Media station, whose parent company announced new changes.

On Wednesday, March 27, Lizah was promoted to the role of Senior Anchor/Senior Political Reporter, which will see her on the front line for breaking news and maintaining a credible presence on the TV station's social media platforms.

Lizah will also be expected to be an on-the-scene reporter or journalist who specialises in a specific area, which may include domestic or international affairs and ensures that the production meets schedules and budgets.

She will also be expected to evaluate all research gathered to determine the potential of the story as well as manage the content creation process by directing the story angles and making edits based on its importance, length and format.

Speaking to Viral Tea on Wednesday evening, Lizah was delighted at the promotion but warned that it may come with its own set of expectations.

"He who much is given, much is taken from them and therefore every promotion comes with expectations on delivery terms in the same capacity," she remarked.

Cape Media owner Prof. Simon Gicharu spoke highly of Lizah's promotion, terming it the fruits of her hard labour in bolstering TV47's speciality in political reporting and through political shows via the TV station and Radio 47.

“Elizabeth Mutuku has been with us for years and she has been very excellent in bringing impressive interviews with the who’s who in Kenya’s political scene, especially with her show, Mfahamu Kiongozi.

"In the long run, her efforts have helped in growing the TV station to one of the best in the country,” Gicharu said during a meeting with the staff.

Lizah is also the host of Mfahamu Kiongozi and Ukumbi Wa Siasa shows on TV47, as well as Radio 47’s Kikao Cha Hoja. She also presents Upeo Wa TV47 (7 pm bulletin) on Wednesdays and Fridays.

In 2022, she shocked Kenyans when reports emerged that she was nominated by Wiper party leader, Kalonzo Musyoka, to the Senate, a nomination that sadly did not materialise.

Despite her nomination not culminating in her swearing-in at the National Assembly to represent the youth, she expressed gratitude to Kalonzo who acted as a father figure in her life and cited his belief in growing the next generation of leaders amongst the youth to higher positions.

Since then, her rise has been astronomical, having previously held multiple roles as a broadcast journalist and reporter and a news anchor at ATG Radio where she worked between 2015 and 2019. She would join TV47 in 2019.

Mutuku also holds an Associate's Degree in Broadcast Journalism from the Nairobi Aviation College and is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Arts degree in Mass Communication and Media Studies from St. Paul's University in Limuru.

She played a leading role in the presidential debate series and is an official of the Parliamentary Journalist’s Association.
