A motorist on Sunday, December 3 took to X (formerly Twitter) to expose an incident which he was rammed from behind by another vehicle along Waiyaki Way.

Kevin Theuri released a 50-second video drawn from footage of his vehicle's onboard camera showing him driving as per usual along the fast lane prior to slowing down while approaching a rumble strip.

Behind him was a clear road, however, as he was approaching the rumble strip, the other motorist in a red Mazda registered as KCU 231T approached him at a high speed and smashed into him from the back.

Theuri lamented that the driver, whose identity was not established by the time of publishing this story, sped off unbothered and threw insults at him, further claiming that the aggressor was drunk.

Here is the video:

"This guy just hit me along waiyaki way at 87 and took off. Car registration number is KCU 231T," he stated.

"Before he fled the scene, he threw some arrogant insults."

Upon inquiry from a concerned Kenyan, Theuri revealed that he managed to get the driver's details from the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) portal, possibly with the view of escalating the matter with the authorities.

Photos seen by Viral Tea showed the Mazda's front bumper extensively damaged and its bonnet deformed.

The incident added to cases of city drivers being exposed for reckless driving habits which have led to serious accidents along Nairobi roads and other roads across the country.

On Saturday, November 25, a dashboard camera captured a trailer causing a multiple car crash along the Southern Bypass in Nairobi which led to a traffic marshal being knocked down by a speeding vehicle.

On Sunday night, a truck driver escaped after his vehicle lost control and hit two pedestrians at Kikopey, Gilgil, Nakuru County as well as into individuals at a local entertainment joint in an accident that claimed the lives of five people.

Statistics from the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) indicated that 3,609 people lost their lives in road accidents during the period covering January to October 2023. This, however, is a drop in the number of fatalities in the same period last year, which stood at 3,936.

Sunday had the highest fatalities in October 2023 with 63 deaths. Friday, Saturday, and Sunday contributed to the highest number of fatalities at 50 per cent.

Some of the reasons attributed to the startling numbers are high travel numbers over the weekends which increases risk exposure, speeding especially along major highways, and reduced enforcement.
