Nominated Member of Parliament Sabina Wanjiru Chege on Wednesday, April 26 put former President Uhuru Kenyatta and former Prime Minister, Raila Odinga, in a tight spot regarding her role in the period leading up to the August 9, 2022, general elections.

Speaking to the media after chaos erupted outside the Jubilee Party headquarters in Kileleshwa, Nairobi, Chege compelled Uhuru and Raila to convene a meeting to examine the sacrifices she made for the sake of the party as well as her contributions to the Uhuru-led party under the Azimio la Umoja coalition.

She explained that she put aside her own political ambitions during the elections to popularise the outfit, whose ruling status came under threat from the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party under President William Ruto and the Kenya Kwanza coalition as a whole.

Amidst a slew of recent attacks and plans to de-whip her, Sabina declared that she was ready to meet Uhuru and Raila to discuss her contribution to the outfit during the polls to the extent of giving up plans to vie for any political seat.

"I would like to look at Uhuru Kenyatta and Baba (Raila) in the face and ask, 'Did Sabina sacrifice for this party?" she posed.

She justified her sentiments by revealing that she would have easily clinched any political seat she vied for but kept those plans aside to back Azimio.

Amidst divisions between Jeremiah Kioni and EALA Member of Parliament (MP) Kanini Kega over the position of Secretary-General of the party, Sabina implored Uhuru to summon a meeting to iron out the issues affecting the Jubilee Party.

"So if something has happened, it is noble for our seniors to call us and have a chance to talk to us. I also want to appeal to our party leader, you are our leader and it is important that you call all of us together.

"It is important we give each other a chance, It is important we preserve this party, and pestering should stop," she urged.

Sabina also noted that Uhuru legitimised President Ruto's election win when he handed over the instruments of power to his former junior, thus ruling out Azimio's weekly protests delegitimising Ruto's government.

She added that she was ready to engage with other Azimio leaders to address the issues through the Parliamentary process while lamenting that the plans to de-whip her at the National Assembly were politically motivated.

This came in the wake of infighting within the Jubilee party with one faction allied to Kega and another to Kioni, with Chege in Kega's camp.

MPs elected on Jubilee Party ticket in the August 9, polls had declared allegiance to President Ruto even as the party remains a member of the Azimio coalition.

Sabina who is the minority whip in the National Assembly is facing an ouster even as Azimio's team is yet to replace her after declaring that she would work with Ruto.

Uhuru, during his impromptu visit to Jubilee Party headquarters, challenged those members unhappy with the party's running of affairs to leave without causing havoc.

"Anybody who is free to leave a party can leave and go to another party. We have no quarrel with anyone. We want to guard our party and those who do not want, are free to leave.

"Let us maintain peace. Police officers have better things to do other than coming here to restore peace. Then we see people coming to cause chaos, we don't have any problems with anyone, we just want peace," he stated while condemning those seeking to cause chaos within the Jubilee party.
