Nairobi lawyer, Cliff Ombetta on Sunday, March 12 joined scores of Kenyans in criticising Mugithi artist DJ Fatxo's press conference held earlier that day.

In a statement, Ombetta argued that Faxto runs the risk of contradiction and potential self-incrimination of himself amidst investigations into the death of 23-year-old interior designer Geoffrey (Jeff) Mwathi, which reportedly occurred at the DJ's residence.

The lawyer believed that anything the musician stated after that presser could be used against him in a court of law and could give investigative agencies room to intensify their probe on him as a person of interest.

Ombetta advised DJ Fatxo to remain silent and allow his lawyers to speak on his behalf and that he can always deny his statements.

"Dj Faxto. Stop blundering. You are supposed to be quiet at this moment. Nil by mouth. Anything you say now is dangerous to you or your defence.

"Don't give cops ground to contradict or investigate. Let your lawyer speak. You can always deny what he says. "misquoted" always helps," Ombeta tweeted.

Lawyer Ndegwa Njiru is representing DJ Fatxo in the ongoing case. Both were present at the presser whereby Fatxo narrated his account of events leading to Mwathi's death.

He threw a new twist on the matter by claiming that he was the one who went and reported to the police that Mwathi was missing.

He explained that after he went with Mwathi to his house at Redwood Apartments along USIU Road after a night out, he left with three women only to find out that Mwathi was not in the house and the occupants he left behind previously were still there.

This prompted him to report the matter to the police station before he reportedly found his body.

"He (Jeff) was my good friend and as my lawyer said, it was me who went and reported. We went with Jeff to my house and then I immediately left with three ladies then later came back after a few hours finding Jeff was not in the house and the others are there.

"I'm the one who went with them to the police station to report that Jeff is missing," he said.

He maintained that after learning about Mwathi's demise, which he did not mourn, he reached out to the deceased's family to break the news of his unfortunate demise, offering even to support them during his burial.

However, DJ Fatxo did not get the response he was hoping for and sought the help of Mwathi's mother to pass some of the information to his relatives.

Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI)'s Homicide Department who visited his home at Redwood Apartments reconstructed the scene of the 12-storey building residential apartment where the 23-year-old fell on February 22.
