The owner of the popular Quiver Lounge branch of Kitengela in Kajiado County has suspended a manager accused of allegedly demanding sex from female workers in exchange for employment, threatening to fire them in the event they failed to comply.

Nominated Senator Gloria Orwoba paid a visit to the lounge on Thursday afternoon, June 6 on a fact-finding mission after a lady who claimed to be a former waitress at Quiver Lounge shared her daunting experience.

According to the woman, most managers in the nightclubs forced female workers to sleep with them, or else they were fired.

She therefore called on owners of nightclubs to employ professional managers and end the behaviour that made the lives of women miserable.

Here is the video that went viral:

Speaking in the video clip Senator Orwoba shared, the owner revealed that the manager in question was suspended pending investigations.

Furthermore, the club embarked on recalling all the workers whose contracts were terminated illegally by the manager, for a meeting with the proprietor, who assured Orwoba that he would reinstate the employees.

"We have also invited the law enforcement authorities to ensure that should there be any such incidents, then the perpetrators have been brought to book."

"We disassociate ourselves from any such acts and we have identified a few of our staff who were recently dismissed. We have recalled them. For those who were wrongfully dismissed, we will reinstate them as the investigations go on," he added.

During her visit, the Senator revealed that she took over the matter after the scandal went viral on social media.

The lawmaker further confirmed that some of the victims had shared evidence of the harassment with her, which she forwarded to the police investigating the issue.

"I took over the matter and met the owner of the establishment," she stated.

"Two things we have agreed and they have already done, the manager has been suspended. I have a lot of evidence sent to me by some of the victims which I will hand over to investigating authorities," she explained noting that she championed the re-employment of the staff members interested in getting their jobs back.

Cases pitting managers or owners of entertainment joints against employees are not new. In December 2022, the National Police Service (NPS) appealed to a woman who was filmed in a viral video confronting the owner of Rixxos Lobby and Grill in Kitengela, Kajiado County to file a complaint before necessary action could be taken against him.

A video which went viral at the time showed the woman, an employee of the entertainment joint, demanding the owner whom she refers to as Jaymo, to pay her the monthly salary she worked for.

However, Jaymo could be heard refusing to surrender to her demands that he pay her while hurling obscenities at her. While heard seemingly daring him to hit her, Jaymo could be seen showing him what appears to be the number of the President.

Reports linked the true ownership of the restaurant to former President Uhuru Kenyatta and his family.
