Five people died in a terrible road accident in the Mutwot area along the Kapsabet-Eldoret Highway, which reportedly left 10 others nursing critical injuries.

The police further revealed that the accident, which occurred on Friday night left a man, two women, and a child dead on the spot. The driver of the matatu died at the Mosoriot Health Centre, where he had been rushed for treatment.
The victims of the accident were mostly residents of Nandi Hills who had hired the school bus and were returning home after attending a public event at a neighbouring county.

Those injured were rushed to the Mosoriot Health Centre, where they were treated and discharged, while the dead were taken to the Kapsabet Hospital mortuary pending identification.
Photos shared on social media showed the bus suffering heavy damage on its front with a broken windscreen and side mirrors.
Moments after the accident, the two vehicles were towed to the Mosoriot Police Station, with the police launching investigations into the accident, which was confirmed by Chesumei Sub County Police Commander Silas Kiokora.
Survivors laid the blame on the matatu driver, whom they claimed was driving while under the influence of alcohol.
The Friday night accident preceded another which occurred on Saturday, January 11 along the Londiani-Muhoroni road, which left at least three people dead and 44 other nursing injuries.
The accident took place after a bus that was ferrying passengers from Mombasa to Busia lost control and rolled over. Confirming the accident, the area Officer Commanding Police Division (OCPD) Agnes Kunga disclosed that the bus got involved in an accident while attempting to negotiate a corner.
Consequently, the vehicle veered off the road and landed on its side. Due to the impact, three people including a child died on the spot. Their bodies were transferred to the Londiani Mortuary for preservation.
Over 10 people were injured and taken to the nearby hospital for medical attention. Police and rescue teams were also deployed to the scene to help in the evacuation efforts and the bus driver was arrested by the police.
