In a notice on Thursday, December 19, the railway corporation announced that the additional trips take effect on Friday, December 20 and will run daily until Christmas Day, Wednesday, December 25.

"Thank you for your continued support and trust in us. Wishing you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year," added the notice.

On July 9, 2024, Kenya Railways announced the resumption of passenger services on the Nanyuki route on Friday, July 12, 2024.

“We are pleased to inform the public that the Nanyuki Passenger Service train will resume service on Friday, July 12, 2024. In line with the normal schedule, the train departs Nairobi Central Station every Friday at 9 am and departs Nanyuki station every Sunday at 9 a.m.," the corporation stated then.

The Nanyuki Safari train makes stops at Makadara, Dandora, Mwiki, Githurai, Kahawa West, Ruiru, Mitubiri, Thika, Kalimoni, Makuyu, Maragua, Murang'a, Sagana Karatina, Kiganjo, Chaka, and Naro Moru stations which lie between Nairobi and Nanyuki.

As of September 2024, those wishing to travel from Nairobi to Nanyuki using this train will part with Ksh400 for economy class and Ksh1,000 for first class. Check prices for the stops here

The service was disrupted in April this year after the heavy rains affected a section of the railway line in the Thika - Mitubiri area. Kenya Railways assured at the time that the safety of its passengers was of paramount importance to them and that it was doing everything to ensure the network was safe for operations.

It was not the first time the Nairobi-Nanyuki route had been suspended. This was the case on June 15, 2023, when midweek passenger services between the two towns were suspended indefinitely. This decision was made to address certain operational requirements and improve the overall efficiency of the service.

On November 24, 2023, the railway company announced the return of the Nanyuki midweek train service as well as the Kisumu service in anticipation of increased demand ahead of the festive season.
