A Toyota Noah vehicle which was ferrying students of St. Clare's Girls School Maragoli, Vihiga County has been involved in an accident.

The accident occurred at Kipkelion, Kericho County on Friday, November 25.

Reports have indicated that the students were travelling home after closing school for the December holidays when the accident occurred.

Several students were injured and rushed to the Londiani Hospital for immediate medical attention. However, the number of casualties is yet to be established.

By the time of publishing this story, the cause of the crash was not identified, and neither was the number of students involved in the accident.

No deaths were reported.

The students who survived the accident, according to photos seen by Viral Tea were inconsolable as rescue operations went on.

Area residents gathered to help console and rescue the group of girls.

The vehicle was badly damaged with its roof almost flattened but the bonnet, windscreen, headlights, side mirrors, and windows among others were damaged. The back was almost intact, save for the door of the boot.

The accident came barely two days after one at the Maili Tisa area on the Eldoret-Turbo Road killed six people, three of who were working for the Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA).

In a statement, the authority noted that the trio were travelling in one of its vehicles and a tractor without headlights which collided with an 11-seater matatu on its way to Kitale from Nairobi.

The accident came amidst a recent report by the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) explaining why the weekends of Friday, Saturday and Sunday are the most dangerous days on Kenyan roads.

"Most fatal road traffic crashes occur from Friday to Sunday, between 5.00 pm to 10.00 pm. The peak being 8.00p.m," NTSA stated in part on Thursday, November 17.

The authority also revealed that the total number of victims of road accidents shot up from 16,642 in 2021 to 17,550 from January to October 30, 2022. Deaths also rose from 3,733 to 3,924 while cases of serious injuries went from 8,214 cases to 7,982.
