Former Kitui Governor Charity Ngilu resurfaced on Wednesday, April 5 and addressed a number of issues, seven months since she went under after the August 9, 2022 elections.

While attending the burial of real estate tycoon Pius Musembi Kivindu in Sultan Hamud, Makueni County, Ngilu opened up on a number of issues, including the Azimio la Umoja demonstrations which were temporarily called off earlier this month.

While speaking on missing out on the demos meant to pile pressure on the government, she further explained her reasons for going under, noting that she had taken part in demos for decades.

“Some leaders are saying that they cannot see me. It is true you cannot see me.

"Those who are asking about my whereabouts started demonstrating just the other day while I have inhaled teargas since 1992," she said.

Ngilu further revealed that despite not taking part in the demonstrations, she would support Azimio's push for reforms in the country.

She also expressed support for the bipartisan approach but called for transparency so that Kenyans can know what is happening.

"I see what you are doing Kalonzo (he was present) and I want to encourage you to soldier on since that is the right direction.

"As Azimio, we had a clear roadmap on what we were going to do should we win the Presidency. Others said as soon as they put down the Bible, maize flour price would reduce to Ksh70,” she said in an apparent swipe at President William Ruto.

Ngilu did not defend her governor's seat since she hoped she will join Raila's government once he wins the presidency.

Wiper Leader, Kalonzo Musyoka, reiterated Ngilu's sentiments of the need for transparency during the talks for the benefit of all.

“We do not have a problem with the parliamentary system, we will give our list on Thursday, April 6, of the members who will take part in the bipartisan approach team.

“But what we must emphasize is that there be sincerity from both parties so as to benefit all Kenyans,” he said.

Azimio is set to hold its Parliamentary Group meeting on Thursday, April 6 in Machakos County to discuss the bipartisan approach suggested by President Ruto in addressing the political stalemate.

On the other hand, according to the Leader of the Majority in the National Assembly Kimani Ichung'wah, Kenya Kwanza's PG is set for Tuesday, April, 11 when it will announce its list of representatives.

Ngilu was last seen in action on the eve of the announcement of the 2022 presidential election results when she saved some of the Azimio leaders who were locked out of the Bomas of Kenya National Tallying Centre which had its security beefed up in the wake of disruptions by politicians during the tallying of votes.
