President William Ruto on Thursday, April 6 named former East African Community and Regional Development Cabinet Secretary (CS) Adan Mohamed among fresh appointments to parastatals in his continued reorganization of the government.

In a Gazette Notice, the Head of State appointed Adan as the chairman of the Board of Directors of the Kenya Leather Development Council.

The appointment which took effect on Wednesday, April 5 will see Adan serve on the board for a period of three years.

At the same time, the President revoked the appointment of Francis Munywoki who was serving in the same capacity.

The Kenya Leather Development Council (KLDC) is a State Corporation established by the Government of Kenya under the Kenya Leather Development Council Order, 2011 (Legal Notice No. 114 of September 9, 2011), under the State Corporations Act (Cap.446), Laws of Kenya.

The Council was instituted as a Specialized agency to drive the Government’s agenda on the development leather industry. To achieve this, the Council is expected to regulate and facilitate the growth of the industry. 

Agriculture CS Mithika Linturi appointed Michael Kihuha Nyangi, Florence John, Regina Ngima Muthami, Peter Gathii Reuben, David Kipkemoi Rotich, and Moses Oude Amoo members of the Kenya Leather Development Council.

In other appointments, the President also named Samuel Sakita Kutata as the chairperson of Ewaso Ngiro South River Basin Development Authority board for a period of three years, starting April 5.

Former Wajir West MP Mohamed Ahmed Kolosh was also named as a member of the Kenya Roads Board.

Transport CS Kipchumba Murkomen appointed Walter Ogolla (Eng.), Sarah Kimani, Rebecca Lamong, and George Ngugi as members of the Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) board.

Adan contested in the Mandera governor race in 2022 on the Jubilee ticket but lost. Chief of Staff and Head of Public Service Felix Koskei announced on November 2, 2022, that Adan was appointed to the President's Council of Economic Advisors.

Adan also previously served as the Cabinet Secretary for Industry, Trade & Cooperatives from 2013 to 2018, as well as the Acting Cabinet Secretary for the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries for a year in 2015.

Prior to his appointment to serve in the Public Service, he was the Chief Administrative Officer for Barclays Africa (now called Absa Bank in Africa), with responsibility for ten (10) Barclays Bank subsidiaries in Africa.

Adan also performed various senior roles in Barclays including CEO of Barclays Kenya for over 10 years and Managing Director of Barclays East and West Africa. He also worked in senior Finance roles at Barclays Bank Group.
