Two police officers guarding the home of Kisumu governor Anyang' Nyong'o in Ratta village, Seme sub-county were questioned after thieves broke into the highly-secured premises and stole goods of unknown value.

The incident that occurred on Tuesday night, July 5 saw the robbers stealing clothes, foodstuff and other valuables.

Kisumu County Police Commander Alphonse Kimanthi noted that two workers at the home have also been questioned, adding that the heist may have been an inside job.

"The night incident could be an inside job but we have launched investigations into the matter after taking statements from at least four people who are usually present at the governor's rural residence," Kimanthi told Nation.Africa

The governor's farmhand had got wind of the incident on Wednesday morning, July 6 and alerted the authorities on the matter.

Kimanthi added that no arrests were made with regards to the theft, noting that it was “just a matter of time” before they catch the culprits.

Police also intend to question locals and neighbours on the matter.

"We are trying to record statements from all his workers and other neighbours to establish the motive and how it was the whole plan was executed," police added.

The home is protected by the two police officers who are assigned to the premises by the national government.

Governor Nyong’o was not at home when the incident happened. He is said to have spent the night at his rental house in Milimani estate.

In 2017, Kisumu county also recorded a similar incident where thugs raided the home of Ruth Odinga who was the deputy governor.
