"In the April incident reported to the police by a member of community policing within the Nyawita area, the two 1st year students aged 19 and 20 were attacked while sleeping in their shared room in the dead of the night, by two assailants who were armed with a machete and a dagger.

"Kicking the door open and threatening the fear-stricken girls with stabs should they make a murmur, the agents from hell forced themselves on the victims before disappearing with their smartphones," the DCI revealed in part in a statement on Thursday.

After making sure that the attackers were out of the vicinity, the victims screamed for help and neighbours responded by assisting them to a local hospital for medical attention.

Kisumu West detectives who relentlessly pursued the case eventually caught up with the first suspect on May 15, who was paraded for identification, DNA sampling conducted and later arraigned.

DCI stated that new leads to his accomplice(s) have since been obtained and the investigators are hot on their trail.

In a carbon copy of the incident, on November 23, 2023, police in Vihiga County launched investigations into a violent robbery case reported by two female college students.

DCI at the time stated that the ordeal occurred when a house belonging to the students was broken into in the dead of night by two unknown men who also raped them.

In their 6 am report to the police, the victims who shared a room at Kamgoi village of Shaviringa within Hamisi Sub-county were suddenly woken up by the two robbers who bore pangas and knives, threatening to kill them if they raised any alarm.
