DCI Orders Kasipul MP Aspirant Linked To Charles Were Murder To Surrender
DCI directed Nahashon to present himself at the nearest police station without delay.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has identified Philip Nahashon Aroko as a person of interest linked to ongoing investigations on the murder of Kasipul Member of Parliament (MP) Charles Were.
In a statement released on Wednesday, May 7, DCI directed Nahashon to present himself at the nearest police station without delay.
The investigative agency affirmed that the directive is not optional, and Nahashon is required to comply immediately.
"The Directorate of Criminal Investigations requests Philip Nahashon Aroko to surrender immediately to the nearest police station. He is a person of interest in the ongoing investigation into the brutal murder of Hon. Charles Ong’ondo Were. Compliance with this request is mandatory," announced the DCI.

The DCI further appealed to members of the public who may have information on Nahashon's whereabouts to come forward.
"We also appeal to anyone with information regarding his whereabouts to contact the nearest police station or use our toll-free numbers: 999, 112, or #FichuaKwaDCI (0800 722 203). All information provided will be treated with the utmost confidentiality," assured the DCI.
Viral Tea has established through past news reports that Nahashon was involved in illicit gold deals. He was among 15 suspects who were charged with conspiracy to defraud a Chinese businessman of Ksh 300 million for fake gold in 2019.
He was charged alongside Jared Kiasa Otieno, Robert Ouko Owiti, Ricky Thomas Ochieng, Peter Omondi Onyach, Michael Ochieng, Paul Otieno Ngoche, Alice Nzisa, Joyce Akinyi Ouma, Juliet Kathambi Kithinji, William Otieno Onyango, Hanington Modisa Lugaye, Madan Olwangu Onyino, Seinim Boukar, Abouna Temoua and Lokole Lokunda Albert.
The 16 individuals were accused of conspiring to defraud Sounthorn Chanthavong, a director of Simuong Group Company from Laos, of USD 3,000,000 (Ksh387.8 million). The alleged scheme involved the use of deceptive tactics, including showcasing heavy metal boxes purportedly containing authentic gold bars, while operating under the name NIRONE SAFE KEEPING LIMITED to falsely present themselves as legitimate traders. The alleged offence took place between February 5 and February 25, 2019.
Nahashon, interestingly, had in 2023 announced his intention to contest for the Kasipul MP seat. In a post on his Facebook account on May 1, 2025, 24 hours after the killing, he reminisced about the late Were as a 'worthy competitor'.
"I hope and trust that the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) will pursue all avenues to ensure that those responsible are brought to justice. I urge my fellow constituents to remain calm and prayerful during this difficult time as we mourn the loss of our MP," he wrote.
DCI earlier on Wednesday arrested several suspects in connection with the killing, including individuals who were close aides to the late Kasipul MP.
During the operation, the DCI recovered two pistols—a Retay Falcon and a Sarsilmaz—along with nine rounds of 9mm ammunition. Investigators also seized a bag and a pair of shoes that matched the description of items worn by one of the suspects at the scene. All recovered items have been sent for forensic analysis.
The MP was fatally shot along Ngong Road after leaving Parliament on Wednesday, April 30. A postmortem later confirmed that he had been shot five times.
National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang'ula, meanwhile, directed the Clerk of the National Assembly to put together all CCTV footage which captured MP Were's presence in Parliament on the day he was assassinated.
