"Upon arrival, they discovered that the sacks had been left unattended at the entrance of the said booking office, and the owner was nowhere to be found, as he was claimed to have gone for authorization papers from KRA offices," DCI's statement read in part.

To determine the contents of the sacks, the officers sought the assistance of a police sniffer dog, which identified the presence of suspicious items inside the sacks.

"The four sacks were escorted to DCI Moyale offices where they were opened, revealing twenty-two (22) bales of cannabis sativa with an estimated street value of Ksh435,000," added the statement.

DCI revealed that efforts to trace and arrest the suspect who is still at large were ongoing, and the recovered cannabis sativa was being kept under lawful custody as an exhibit.

The investigative agency has been leading the charge in terms of the war against drugs, making numerous arrests across the country.

On Wednesday, April 17, DCI arrested a drug trafficker in Mombasa during a raid conducted at his house.

The sleuths drawn from the Anti-Narcotics Unit seized the suspect in Kiembeni, Bombo area of Kisauni, and from his house and personal car, several sachets of suspected heroin and Cannabis sativa.

A tip-off from a concerned member of the public led detectives to the suspect's location during the early-morning operation.

"Also seized from the suspect is his vehicle which is believed to be a proceed of crime, cash Ksh26,250 and USD 200 (Ksh26,500), a weighing machine, packaging envelopes and three mobile phones believed to contain data of his accomplices," stated the DCI in part then.
