President William Ruto will depart the country on Tuesday, April 4 for a two-day State visit to the Republic of Rwanda.

State House spokesperson, Hussein Mohamed revealed in a statement that the latest trip out of Kenya came at the invitation of Rwanda President Paul Kagame.

"At the invitation of his host, H.E. President Paul Kagame, the two Heads of State are expected to deliberate on areas of mutual interest and cooperation, including the Northern Corridor integration projects, food security, innovation and ICT, health and education," read the statement in part.

The visit is further expected to enhance trade and commerce cooperation within the East Africa Community (EAC) and the African continent.

In addition, the two leaders are expected to reaffirm their commitment to EAC integration and the Africa Continental Free Trade Area (ACFTA) cooperation for trade and economic growth.

Regional peace and security will also feature in the discussions that will culminate in the signing of bilateral agreements.

Before Ruto's inauguration on September 13, 2022, the two met at Ruto's Karen office in Nairobi whereby they promised to work towards expanding the nations' mutual cooperation for the mutual benefit of their citizens.

"Kenya and Rwanda have a long-established relationship based not just on geography but mutual interests and long-standing partnerships on economic and security issues," Ruto stated at the time.

Earlier, President Ruto had convened at the third Social Protection Conference week at the Kenya School of Government, Nairobi whereby he affirmed his commitment to enhancing social and economic rights for all Kenyans. 

The Head of State further affirmed that from June 2023, the social protection cash transfer for the vulnerable would be disbursed before the salaries of public servants were paid. 

"On Universal Health Coverage it will be possible to pay Ksh300 and still keep your NHIF cover. We are also re-designing the delivery of health services, and will roll out a program to pay a stipend to the 100,000 community health workers or volunteers in the country," the statement read in part. 

President Ruto had only come from his four-day tour of Europe whereby he visited the nations of Germany and Belgium. In Germany, he met H.E. President Frank-Walter Steinmeier and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz in talks aimed at strengthening bilateral relations between Kenya and Germany.

In Brussels, the President met H.E. Alexander De Croo, Prime Minister of Belgium and discuss mutual areas of interest including, health, addressing Kenya's food security and drought response, climate action, trade and investment.

The President also engaged with the leadership of the European Union, including, H.E. Charles Michel, President of the European Union Council and H.E. Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission.

Since assuming office, President Ruto has made 18 foreign trips in the quest by the Kenya Kwanza administration to build healthy relationships with foreign powers.

Other countries he has visited so far include England, Tanzania, Uganda, the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), and South Korea.
