Director Trevor has announced that he has ended his working relationship with popular YouTuber Eve Mungai.

Director Trevor, known for his behind-the-scenes magic in video production, revealed in his Instagram stories on Monday, February 19 that he would be taking over the YouTube channel that was previously co-managed with Mungai.

The channel, for whom Mungai made a name for herself during the 2020 lockdown, will undergo rebranding to become Kenya Online Media and an official statement is expected to be released on Tuesday, February 20.

While confirming he parted ways with Mungai Eve in management of the channel stating, "Her services are no longer needed.”

The change, which caught many of their fans off-guard, signifies a new direction for the YouTube channel which before today amassed more than 754,000 subscribers and to which Mungai had previously confessed earned her more than Ksh1.5 million in monthly salaries through the streaming giant, earning her millionaire status at the age of 21.

Director Trevor also stripped Mungai of her role in managing other online platforms that were previously co-owned including the Insta Fame YouTube channel with over 100,000 subscribers as well as a Facebook page with 847,000 followers.

Mungai, who is currently in Zanzibar, Tanzania, is yet to respond to the sudden development by the time of publishing this article.

The news of their professional split is likely to spark all manner of rumours given that this comes amidst speculations regarding turbulence in their romantic relationship, which was earlier in January a major topic of discussion amongst Kenyan showbiz circles.

On Wednesday, January 3, those rumours intensified after the duo surprisingly deleted photos of each other from their respective Instagram accounts.

An older video at the same time resurfaced showing Mungai addressing their relationship dynamics and explaining why they would never publicly announce a breakup.

In the video in which she had an interview with local YouTubers, she expressed her confusion about persistent breakup rumours, emphasizing that their relationship had challenges like any other.

However, she staunchly defended their decision to keep their matters private and away from the online spotlight.

Through her hard work, Mungai has covered a lot of untold stories on her YouTube channel, most of them entertainment. The independent investigative journalism student, YouTuber, artist, and businesswoman had dropped out of journalism school and met Trevor during the 2020 lockdown.

She started her YouTube channel, going viral through her coverage of the Machakos Gengetone Festival in October of that year and Madocho and Gotta City, both becoming trends for an entire month.

Her channel won people’s hearts when she helped Madocho, Liyetin, and Stupid Boy come up, covering every news till they got recognized. At one point they got a sponsor (Vagah of Afro Royalties) to sponsor their music, in what many consider a significant turning point in her career.

However, Trevor was credited for being the main reason behind Mungai's success. Trevor is also her director and photographer, who inspired her to start her own channel.

He previously worked at KenRelBis Updates with presenter Ali but decided to start his own.
