Kileleshwa Member of County Assembly (MCA) Robert Alai has urged popular YouTuber Eve Mungai to file a lawsuit against Director Trevor, hours after the latter announced that he cut professional ties with the former.

As previously reported on Viral Tea, Trevor, known for his behind-the-scenes magic in video production, revealed in his Instagram stories on Monday, February 19 that he would be taking over the YouTube channel that was previously co-managed with Mungai.

In a statement on X the following day on Tuesday, February 20, the controversial blogger urged Mungai to mobilise efforts to recover her channel as well as her roles in managing other online platforms they previously co-owned.

According to Alai, Mungai relentlessly built her online portfolio to where it is currently, something he believes she should not let go of easily.

"Eve Mungai should sue Trevor and recover all her pages. Eve Mungai built the pages using her image and went to great lengths to sacrifice everything for the pages to grow.

"I remember how many times we interacted with her while chasing a story. She shouldn't let the channels go that easily," he wrote.

According to the Employment Act sections 45(2) and 46, an employer has to prove for termination of employment in Kenya, otherwise, it is termed as illegal.

Whereas an employer is allowed by Kenyan law to terminate an employee without notice, an employer is required to pay the employee a sum equal to the salary he or she would have received during the notice period.

However, in this case, Trevor's announcement that Mungai's channel for whom she made a name for herself during the 2020 lockdown, and which will undergo rebranding to become Kenya Online Media, as well as his short statement that he would cut working ties with Mungai has left fans in the dark regarding the circumstances that culminated in Trevor's decision.

An official statement which was expected today regarding the rebranding was yet to be released by the time of publishing this article.

Meanwhile an old video of Mungai and Trevor being interviewed by Presenter Ali who enquired about the fate of their YouTube channel in case of a fallout resurfaced, though appearing to contradict Trevor's latest announcement.

The director explained that although he opened the channel, he would allow Mungai to keep it and confidently stated that he believed he would pull a similar audience with a new channel.

"I'm the one who created the YouTube channel but it is hers. Maybe when there is an issue, I'd like for the channel to be hers in that the naming rights are hers and it is her brand.

"I can start a channel and it can be successful. I just know the password, the rest I don't know," he affirmed.

In 2021, Mungai disclosed that Trevor was sacked from a media house for giving her the idea to start a YouTube channel.

Mungai, who flew to Zanzibar on February 19, was yet to speak on the split, coming amidst speculations regarding turbulence in their romantic relationship, which was earlier in January a major topic of discussion amongst Kenyan showbiz circles.

On Wednesday, January 3, those rumours intensified after the duo surprisingly deleted photos of each other from their respective Instagram accounts.
