Celebrated sports radio presenter, Fred Arocho, has joined the newly-launched Radio 47 station under Cape Media.

He posted a cryptic message on his Facebook page on Wednesday, March 29, despite the dead giveaway being Radio 47's slogan 'Hapa Ndipo (Here is where it is)'

"Good morning Kenya! 47Hapa ndipo!" he shared.

Confirming that he was indeed joining the station, Radio 47 football commentator and sports editor Hassan Mwana Ali took to his Facebook page to welcome him to his new station.

"Fred Arocho karibu nyumbani! (welcome home) Radio 47. Hapa Ndipo," Hassan commented on Arocho's post whereby he announced his exit from Radio Jambo, one of the stations under the Radio Africa Group (RAG).

Radio 47, despite being weeks old, has been on a relentless hunt for top talent from rival media houses, with the biggest casualty being Radio Maisha, under the Standard Media Group (SMG), which has been for long battling financial woes and losing talent in form of journalists. Since announcing its plans to trim its payroll, SMG has been turned into a poaching ground for its competition.

Radio 47 will also hope to replicate the success of TV47, which stabilized barely three years after being launched, making it one of the fastest-growing TV stations in Kenya.

With the Kiswahili proposition, Radio 47 sets itself against the big boys in the industry and hopes to send its competition back to the drawing board. It will also provide job opportunities for journalists, presenters and other technical crew.

Arocho penned a farewell message to Radio Jambo followers in a statement shared on his official social media pages on March 29, 14 years after joining the station.

He expressed his gratitude at working in the Lions Place-based company in Nairobi, appreciating the management for supporting him throughout his career at the Swahili radio station.

"I cannot believe how time has flown, it's now 14 yrs since I joined Radio Africa Group, a place I have made home.

"With great humility, I take this opportunity to formally thank the management (RAG) for the confidence bestowed on me while on air and to my fellow staff members who made the place a wonderful family for me," he wrote in part.

At Radio Jambo, he hosted The Weekend Warm Up show every Saturday from 11 am to 2 pm alongside Diamond Okusimba and Bramwell Mololo and presented sports news plus offered live football commentary.

He also featured as a pundit on the Sporty Monday show on Citizen TV. Coincidentally, Arocho was a footballer with playing stints at premier league clubs Sony Sugar and KCB.
