President William Ruto has told Kenyans to expect lower fuel prices today, Thursday, March 14, when the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) is expected to announce new monthly prices.

Speaking in Kericho while commissioning the Kapsuser-Sosiot Road in Belgut, the Head of State assured Kenyans that he had tamed the turbulence in the sector.

According to him, his administration has made elaborate plans which will see the precious commodity record another drop in prices.

"I want to tell you that even the price of fuel is going down, you guys relax. What date is it today? The new fuel prices will be announced today, so relax," Ruto assured gathered residents after promising them better job opportunities.

"I told you I have everything under control, so just relax and know that everything is fine."

Ruto remained bullish indicating that the new measures will be evident through the latest EPRA review. However, he did not immediately reveal the exact figure fuel will drop by.

Nonetheless, EPRA is expected to reveal the new monthly fuel prices anytime from now and will take effect at midnight on Friday, March 15 for a month until the next review, Sunday, April 14.

In the previous monthly review which came on Valentine's Day, Wednesday, February 14, the price of Super Petrol, Diesel and Kerosene were all lowered by Ksh1.

The prices as of now ahead of the review are as follows: In Nairobi, Super Petrol, Diesel and Kerosene retail at Ksh206.36, Ksh195.47 and Ksh193.23.

During the previous month, the prices were as follows: In Nairobi, Super Petrol, Diesel and Kerosene retailed at Ksh207.36, Ksh196.47 & Ksh194.23.

On November 18, 2023, President Ruto revealed that the logistical challenges that triggered the hike in oil prices were resolved and the aftermath would be significantly felt at the pump in the coming months.

To be specific, Ruto indicated that the December price changes would bear huge significance compared to the Ksh2 drop affecting Diesel and Kerosene as announced by EPRA that month.

"We have started dealing with the cost of fuel which has gone up everywhere but as Kenya, we made plans. We have looked for ways of ensuring that the price does not get to levels where many Kenyans will be negatively affected.

"You have seen that we have started to reduce the price of fuel. Next month the price will be reduced much more. That will also be the case in January until we get to a sustainable price," he stated.
