Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua is lamenting a stalking scenario again, pleading with the National Intelligence Service (NIS) to redeploy an intelligence officer who followed him on a trip of 181.6 kilometres.

According to Gachagua, the officer tailed him to Kalawa Ward in Mbooni Constituency, Makueni County, on Wednesday. He travelled from Nairobi to the area, which is nearly 200 kilometres from Nairobi, for a burial ceremony.

In a statement, Gachagua stated that the officer, whose image he exposed, and the car could be deployed to do “some useful work to enhance our security as a nation.”

"It was pointless to waste fuel and man-hours having him follow us all the way from Nairobi to Makueni yesterday," he lashed out.

Gachagua went on to claim that the officer was being deployed to keep an eye on him. The alleged surveillance comes as the man who once proclaimed to be the King of the Mountain continues to take on the government.

"It would save public funds to detail your officers in Makueni to listen to what am saying, record and send to you instead of wasting public funds," he added.

In his post on social media, Gachagua posted the car that is allegedly following him, as well as the face of the officer.

This is another instance that the impeached second-in-command is decrying surveillance and intimidation by state security agents after he was thrown out of office by the Houses of Parliament; first the National Assembly and then the Senate.

On November 20, he claimed that he was being stalked by security agents in unmarked vehicles who had pitched camp outside his Nairobi residence.

"Security agents in unmarked cars have been following me wherever I go. They are parking at the entrance of my Nairobi residence, taking note of all my visitors, and they trail me whenever I leave the house, even all the way to my rural home in Nyeri," he announced on his social media pages.

Gachagua has already outlined the political direction he intends to take alongside his followers come January 2025. On Wednesday, December 18, he confirmed that he would team up with Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka in a fresh bid to take President William Ruto head-on during the 2027 general elections.

However, he outlined that the Ukambani community possessed enough numbers to pose a serious threat to President Ruto's camp and all they needed to do to give that camp nightmares was to turn up in large numbers and register as voters.

Gachagua gave an exact figure of how many numbers would be required to swing the pendulum in their favour in the next elections, boldly claiming that his team has an unbeaten record in Kenyan politics. "Mine is just to urge the Ukambani people to register as voters. As the nominated MCA said, leadership is registering and voting," he said.

"In Kenya to win a poll, you need 50 plus one. We want Kitui Machakos and Makueni to register themselves so we can get 3.5 to four million. Once you get to that figure, look for me because on our side we want to push 10 million. Everything is about strategy."
