Gladys Wanga, Natembeya Among Elected Governors So Far

Homa Bay Woman Representative Gladys Wanga has been declared the governor-elect for Homa Bay County, upsetting former Nairobi governor Dr Evans Kidero.

Provisional results by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) showed that Wanga had overcome her competition with 244,559 votes.

Kidero trailed with 154,182 while United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party's Mark Raudi came in third with 1,244 votes.

Kasipul Kabondo Member of Parliament Oyugi Magwanga will deputize Wanga, who becomes the youngest female governor and the first governor in the Nyanza region.

She was the first woman ODM chairperson in Homa Bay and also the first to head the powerful National Assembly Departmental Committee on Finance and National Planning.

Elsewhere, in West Pokot, incumbent governor John Lonyangapuo lost his seat to UDA’s Simon Kachapin. Kachapin won with 86,476 votes against his competitor’s 84,610 votes.

Prof Lonyangapuo's deputy, Dr Nicholas Atudonyang, finished third with 2,294 votes. He had been out of the country for most of his tenure as the deputy governor and had only arrived in the country just three days to the August 9 general elections.

According to a report by NTV, Atudonyang has been working as a neurosurgeon in the US.

Here are other gubernatorial winners so far:

1. Homa Bay County - ODM’s Gladys Wanga has been elected the Homa Bay Governor after garnering 244,559 votes against his fierce competitor and Independent candidate Evans Kidero who got 154,182 votes.

2. Bomet County - Hillary Barchok was on Friday declared the winner after defeating his close rival Isaac Ruto. Barchok garnered 158,798 votes while Ruto got 137,323 votes.

3. Trans Nzoia County - Former Rift Valley Regional Commissioner George Natembeya has won the Trans Nzoia governor seat. He garnered 158,919 votes against his competitor Chris Wamalwa of Ford Kenya came in second with 79,020 votes. 

4. Busia County - ODM's Paul Otuoma got 164,478 votes to clinch the seat while John Sakwa of ANC emerged second with 92,144 votes.

5. Kisumu County - Governor Anyang Nyong'o was reelected after garnering 319, 957 votes against his competitor Jacktone Ranguma who got 100, 600 votes. 

6. Nyamira County - Nyamira Governor Amos Nyaribo of UPA was reelected by polling 82,090 votes, his closest opponent Walter Nyambati of UDA garnered 49,281 votes. 

7. Uasin Gishu County - Jonathan Bii of UDA has been elected governor after garnering 214,036 votes edging Independent candidate Zedekiah Bundotich who garnered 127,013 votes. 

8. Migori County - Migori County - ODM’s Ochilo Ayacko won the Migori Governor seat with 175,226 votes; DAP-K’s John Pesa came in second with 126,171 votes. 

9.  Nandi County - Stephen Kipyego Arap Sang (UDA) was declared the winner after getting 237,045 votes followed by former Governor Cleophas Lagat (Independent) with 54,375 votes.
